I think there's too much manipulation with Mission Control.

Apple should simply provide two options to bind the spaces key.

1. Mission Control
2. 2D spaces

This might solve a major inconvenience to those who lose a lot of productivity with MC.

Hi,

I still hope that Apple will bring an option to activate the 10.6 spaces in a later Lion build.

Don't like the new spaces.

Chris

I agree with the OP. And, judging from reading through numerous threads about Lion, it seems like there are a lot of new features in Lion that people don't like and are asking if they can disable, revert to, or have the option for the older style. e.g. Launch Pad, Mission Control, Spaces, scroll bar directions, iCal, Finder, etc.

If a lot of people who buy Lion are just going to disable, revert, choose older options, for everything, then it doesn't bode well for the new OS X.

Having said this, I know it's still early going, and maybe these new features that people don't find particularly better or efficient in the DPreview will get a lot more pleasing by GM.

i don't mind it, i never understood what spaces actually does LOL never figured out how to set it up. i'm doing fine on mission control (wow saying it out loud makes u feel so bad ass)

To be honest, everything in Lion is great apart from MC, but maybe thats just me.

LaunchPad is great for new users; normal users. The applications folder isn't tough to use; or to come across; but having the spontaneity and ease, its great. Maybe, its just a copied feature, but it works great.

The scroll bars are good; you have preferences for them. Finder, iCal; everything's cool.

My only other disappointment is; Apple going Helvetica in OS X; which is unbearable to me.

Finally got to check out Lion today...wow, Spaces *is* pretty lame. Totally lost all the flexibility it currently has.

Maybe I won't be so quick to upgrade to Lion after all.

Well that's quite strange that you couldn't figure out how to check a single checkmark!

Maybe Apple desperately wants to please people who are unable to figure out even a feature so simple as Spaces, so they'd rather make it a completely watered down feature just so that everyone understands how it works, at the cost of losing its entire purpose.

Should all cars be automatic just because not everyone can get used to changing gears? Should all cameras be automatic just because 99% of people aren't pro photographers? What about the 1% pro photographers, the ones who actually take real photos, should they stand by and just have to "get used to" not being able to control their camera? Just because the people who actually don't take photography seriously want to take photos?

i just didn't see the point, it opened iTunes mail and everything on a new space, so annoying. to each their own i guess

Unless you tell it to open specific applications in specific spaces, it will open what you open in the space you are in currently. Then you just move around with the arrow keys and drag windows wherever you want, or you can have an overview and see everything at once.

The point of Spaces is that you don't have all your windows on top of each other at once. You might be working on two different things, say you're uploading files to an FTP server and you have 4 Finder windows open and 3 FTP windows. You just put all of that in one space. Then say you have 2 Safari windows and 1 download window open on another space, and then iChat, MSN Messenger, Skype and Mail in another space.

As people tend to do many things at the same time, but with different applications, you can group stuff together into different spaces. That's like having more than one computer or more than one screen. If you have 6 Spaces, it's like having a screen that's 6 times bigger than the original.
