I hate the new Notification Centre on iPad

As much as I like the other major enhancements Apple adds to make the iPad feels more like a laptop replacement, I swear they are making NC worse year after year on purpose.

It used to look like this in iOS 8/9:

Splitting widgets and notifications into separate pages in iOS 10 wasn't too bad, but now you can only fit one column of widgets in Today View (at least on Pro 9.7) regardless of your device's orientation. It is a phone UI stretched to fill a tablet display and sticks out like a sore thumb next to other new features.

I agree, I don't like it either, this is way worse for me, and a waste of valuable space, was very happy when it went to two columns.

Maybe the ability to place widgets were we want and resize them? Just make it known to Apple and maybe they will go back.

I completely agree, and I truly hope they continue to play with notification to find something manageable and efficient. I never had an iPad on iOS 9 but that looks much more user-friendly than what we have now.

Yeah and it definitely looks like more of a 'Pro' notification centre

There's no difference than what you've shown on your 9.7, which makes it even more absurd. I'm not a fan of it either. It doesn't make any sense. You pull down from the top and you're back to your lock screen? And then if you want to see more notifications you have to swipe up? Just seems so counter intuitive.

Everything on iOS11 seems much more inefficient now.

Notification? Swipe down. Swipe up. Scroll through

Control Center? Swipe up. Swipe up. Long Press

Multitask? Swipe up. Hold and drag. Position. Swipe to lock.

Close Apps? Swipe up. Long Press. Hit X. Wait. Hit X. Wait.



I know its an early beta (which is why its worth complaining about) but so far it seems like Apple is avoiding the simple solutions so I’m really hoping enough people voice their opinion so that Apple can address things. Because if “Pro” users are having trouble with these changes then I cant imagine the support calls we’ll be getting from our family members... :D

The whole thing is a bad intimation of the Android notification system where you swipe down to see all of them (which is superior to iOS' IMO)

I don’t like the unified notifications period, on either the iPhone or iPad. I said this before, but it seems like Apple this year didn’t really put much effort on the UI design. Some of the concepts seem like they were ok, but needed a lot more work.
 
Are there any good videos that talk through it on iPhone?

I'm just struggling to understand what exactly the changes are and why... like what's even the rationalisation?

I know a few people who would probably be very confused to find themselves on a lock screen after swiping down.
 
I also don't understand why they got rid of the NC, what is the point? Now you have to swipe more to view notifications. The power button could already take you to the lock screen.

It really feels like something you would find on an Android skin, it doesn't simplify especially because it doesn't just look a bit like the lock screen, it is the lock screen; No recent notifications are shown in the first view and I'm sure many won't know how to use it
 
I do not like the swipe down and then swipe back up to see notifications in iOS 11 on the iPad. I imagine it's even more annoying on the iPhone, which is where I check most of my notifications. It's really jarring to swipe down and have the lock screen come up. It's so confusing. I keep thinking "Did I accidentally hit the lock button real quick or something?"

Control center is more annoying to get into. So we've got swipe off of display from bottom for the dock, swipe down on the display from top for weird lock screen notification thing, swipe off the display from right for the multitasking "hover" app, so why not swipe off the display from left for notification center? It could just slide in like the hover app. Currently the hover app can't be hidden off the left side of the display, so why not put the control center there? Is it because people swipe that side to go back too often, and so sometimes it would trigger it if they started just off the display?

It's already pretty bad in iOS 10.. having to clear every single day's worth of email notifications individually, even after I've already deleted them in the Mail app.

But this is about it's use on iPads and no iPad to date has had 3D touch. Having said that, Apple once implemented it with the Apple pencil and they could just do it with a long press in the future

It almost feels to me like Apple are basically trying to deprecate Notification Centre, at least in this beta. It’s still there, but it’s tucked so far out of the way and is so much less use that only people who REALLY want it will ever go to it, thus making it easier to just totally drop it in the future.

I think they’re kind of pushing the idea that all your notifications will just live on your lock screen forever now, and that’s the “proper” way to handle Notifications. I could be wrong and maybe they’ll fix this, but it feels like Notification Centre is just getting pushed further and further out to the edges of iOS, until they can quietly shove it overboard almost without anyone noticing.

Annoying, since I have all my notifications set never to display anything on my lock screen mainly for security and privacy reasons - well, it’s more just force of habit from olden days than anything else if I’m being honest. But I’ve never used the lock screen for a single thing other than actually locking my device, and have kept my notifications solely on Notification Centre. So this is not a welcome change, for me at least.

Replacing it with the lock screen entirely would be an interesting move and a lot simpler than this, i don't think i would mind

All of this has been driving me absolutely insane as well.
