This is an instant share. There's an app named "Quick Snap - Camera Plus" on App Store claims that it does the volume button snap!
This is what I always wanted so I gave it a shot. Amazing. But I mean this app doesn't do too much other than that. If you're expecting fancy camera features, don't try.

I've beening wanting volume snap since day one. If you're interested in this, just check it out. :D:D:D

Fyi

Just go grab it already before it's too late!!!!! It works great on my iPhone 4.

Volume key makes it harder to take pictures.

Just try shooting with 1 hand. Soft key works better. Less camera movement with soft key too.

What on earth are you talking about????

You can hold the camera and snap a picture via the volume keys easier than you could hold the camera and use screen-based soft keys to do likewise. Even if you've got a Megan Fox-sized thumb or grip the phone with your middle finger on top and thumb underneath, you'll be gripping the camera really weird to use a soft key.

Why do you think everyone is so anxious to get volume-based shutter release in the first place? Your finger is already up there if you are right handed so pretty simple.

Oh boy this isn't going to stay up for long.

Can't Apple potentially release an update in the future to break this app?

Think it is pulled, search doesn't find it and the OP link is invalid now.

Except to take pics that way you have to hold the phone upside down and then it's easy to cover up the lens with your hand since it's at the bottom of the phone now.

This sort of thing is exactly what got Camera+ banned from the App Store for several months. Apple has explicitly stated that apps aren't allowed to modify the functionality of hardware buttons.

I'm thinking the dev (is it the OP?) got this approved by hiding the volume-control feature, making it available as an "Easter Egg." (again, what Camera+ did).

Now that Apple's shut the review team down for the next couple of days, the dev's probably hoping it won't be pulled until after Christmas.

By the way, this sort of thing is entirely possible without any sort of private API usage (I'm a dev too). You just have to monitor volume changes.

i guess you havent tried it.

my phone is JB and SnapTap allows me to use the camera.app to take pic with the volume button. it is so much easier and better than pressing the soft button.

Still available...glad I am such a geek I checked MacRumors Christmas morning!

The only thing I don't like about it so far...I keep my phone in vibrate mode most of the time...this app won't let you use the volume key to shoot a pic unless the sound is ON.

If you purchase this app would you no longer use other camera apps, such as Camera+, or do you use it in conjunction with other apps or the default app?

I had the Camera + solution and never used it

It is much easier and more stable to use the soft button

Some apparently don't realize you don't have to "punch" the button
The shutter will not release until you release your touch
Just put you finger on the soft button, line up your shot and then let go

Far better than squeezing the volume button to me
But I understand others have their own preferences

Me too, I downloaded it, so it's mine forever!

I would be pissed if i was that Camera + company, their app got pulled for this, and this app BLATENTLY states that the feature is in there, and Apple accepts the app. Wow.

Yeah, that's kind of annoying, and don't worry, you're not the only geek! :D

Sof t bottom is better for portrait pictures, volume rocker for landscape pictures. Anyway, other then the bi feature of using the volume button to take pictures, how well does this app work?
