I bought the 32GB. My thought is if I do love this thing as much as people say I will then upon next release I'd get a new one, likely with more features, and at that time I'd increase the size.

32GB for me is nice because when I travel I struggle with a 16GB iPhone. I don't need all the movies I put on there but I like choice. The iPad will likely suffer the same fate so I went with the 32GB. The 64GB to me seemed like overkill. Also, like you (OP), I thought the 16GB may get dropped next year making it difficult to resell for a fair sum. I could be wrong and all models could be difficult to resell in a year. I also foresee price drops, at least in a year, and that would hinder resale value as well. I look at the iPad as an Apple TV, I paid $329 for mine and sold it fro $250, which was really a huge bucket of luck. Thank goodness for unsuspecting eBay buyers. The iPad could suffer a 25% decrease in resale value or more in 1 year. Who knows?

The 2g 16gb iPod touch has no problems selling on craigslist and auction sites. It's preferred currently for those who like to customize their devices. As for the iPad 16gb being more difficult to resell, I disagree because that size is always appealing to those of us who can only afford that size and for those who find that size perfect for their needs. What is too tiny for you may not be for someone else in a different financial situation than you.

Let me just add that I got the 64gb and if I made a recommendation it would be for the 16gb. I still have not really listened to music. I have not watched a full movie. It is great for the Internet and apps. Movies look amazing, but I use air video, which is amazing. My point is that I still have not really taken advantage of the extra space. And if I were ever to need more than 16gb of movies I could sync more from my laptop.

If you're into hacking, get the 64GB. Once you jailbreak, you can load up tons of apps on it. I got the 16GB and so far only used up 4GB. I have some photos and apps on it, but no music or videos at all. Surfing the web, reading book and magazines, and using some apps are what I do on the iPad, which I think 16GB is enough. More space is definitely plus if you can afford it.

ok 64GB it is.

Now... if this package requires a signature, I should ship it to the office... I hope Apple doesn't pull a Saturday delivery thing or I'll be screwed until the following Monday. What to do? :D

I pre-ordered the 16GB but when i went to the store, I changed to a 32GB at the last minute. Glad I did. Two weeks later, I only have 12GB left. I have 18GB free on my 32GB iPhone if that helps.

Also, you want to keep at least 4-5GB free for an HD movie rental. Even if you don't use iTunes for movies, you never know. My friend was leaving for a flight and had a last minute urge to watch a particular movie. Never rented anything from itunes before. Spent half an hour downloading it, almost missing his flight, and when it came time to sync, his 16GB ipad didn't have enough space. Bummed him out.

And that is the ultimate argument for 64GB. Better to have it an not need it than to need it and not have it. Unless there are some financial considerations at stake, bigger is better. The extra space does not come at a cost of heavier weight or size or slower speed - all models are identical except their capacity storage. If you can afford it, there is no good reason not to get the 64GB.

My humble opinion, of course. :)

I got the 16, I can see the size getting tight before too long (you actually only have a little over 14 to work with), but I think I'll just give this to my mom when I upgrade next year, it'll be more than enough for her. I've only got one movie and about 400 songs loaded and I'm down to about 7+ GB available, if you start downloading a lot of apps, the space they require adds up.

Got the 16gb and don't regret it. Still have 10gb left. I use for the Internet mostly.
