How many iOS updates should we wait in order for Airport to be always functional and instantly..... without having to reboot iphone, mac, router etc..... such a shame!

I am currently using iOS9 and Yosemite on a MBAir 13 Haswell.

With iOS9 Airdrop seems to be improved between iOS devices (used to be crap) in terms of both speed and reliability. But I still have to test it with an el Capitan Mac. I guess your problem could be on the Mac side, since it still runs Yosemite, which had a very buggy implementation.

Ps: you gotta love when somebody comes and answers: "perfect for me!" When the internet is litterary filled with people who have problems with Airdrop.

In iOS 7 and iOS 8, it would randomly not work for me (ex. My friend & I had our iPhones unlocked with AirDrop on, and we sent a video to eachother. Then, literally 1 minute later, same conditions, I couldn't find my friend to send him another file).

So far with iOS 9, it has been more stable for me (iOS to iOS). I'm waiting for El Capitan to make a judgement if the Mac version is still messy.

It works perfectly between my iOS 9 device and my El Cap Mac.

It usually works with iOS to iOS but sometimes I'm waiting for it to show up.

Mac to Mac? That one is a STRUGGLE.

For me it works everywhere, but the problem is that you have to go to Finder->AirDrop for it to work. It should work like Bluetooth does.

I always open the airdrop on finder mate (despite how ridiculous it seems for such a feature to get it working).... but.... you know... it works 1 out of 10 and then i quit trying.... but as users have stated here i never had problem between 2 iOS devices.... only between iOS and Mac....i ll have to wait for Capitan and try again.

I hacked AirDrop on my MBP 2011, and have 0 issues with iOS 9.0, 9.0.1 or 9.1 and OS X El Capitan 10.11, or 10.11.1.

Mine works however sometimes its a little fiddly. Never requires a restart/reboot though.

What I don't like about it is when it sees only one device it won't show (iPad, iPhone, Mac) under it. So I'll end up sending a file to the wrong device because the one I wanted to send it too wasn't activating.

I use it a lot to send flattened mockup PSDs to different devices at work for testing app UI/UX stuff. Works fine with iPhone 5C, 5S, 6 Plus, 6, iPod Touch, iPad Mini, Mini 2, Mini 3, Air and Air 2. Sent from late 2012 iMac 27" and late 2013 rMBP. And this is on a massive and complex WiFi network. At home it works fine on our Airport Extreme AC with the iPad Air 2 and Mini 2, as well as our iPhone 5 and 6 Plus and my mid-2012 rMBP. Only devices it doesn't work with is the 3.5" iPod Touch and iPad 2 but that's due to hardware limitations. Sucks that so many people have trouble still since we use a ton of devices with it and have no issues. I mean sometimes it will take a moment for a device to show up, especially an older one, but it's not bad.

Wifi network shouldn't matter as it uses wifi direct. Keep in mind it works when devices have no data or are on cellular.

With iOS 8 and Mac OS 10.10 I've had no real problems. Now updated to iOS 9 and Mac OS 10.11 and it isn't working. Turned on and off WiFi and BT, changed AirDrop on both devices to "Everybody" but nothing worked.
Last weekend I exchanged photo between two iOS devices and that worked fine.
