Brought it a couple of days ago, brought it for 1250 for 12.9 512gb. Shall I keep it and get the M2 for 1449?
I would get the new one unless the old one was a mega deal, which it doesn’t seem it was.Brought it a couple of days ago, brought it for 1250 for 12.9 512gb. Shall I keep it and get the M2 for 1449?
You buy an iPad for the apps it runs not for the OS. Professional apps like procreate, lightroom, Photoshop, Affinity suite et al will all benefit from m2 over m1. Not to say if the m1 is a good deal it’s a bad idea. But buying last years tech at full price when the new tech is out is a silly idea.I really doubt you would ever notice £200 worth of performance - for iPad OS M2 over M1 is meaningless.
‘That weird hover feature’ is incredibly useful and finally brings it inline with one of the missing features from Wacom and the likes.$200 for M2, ProRes on iPad and that weird hovering feature isn’t worth it at all. Save that money to get something Else. Maybe M3 would bring something more meaningful to the table, but who knows. Not today, obviously.
That is exactly my thoughts…. To me it seems madness to purchase the M2 for an additional £300.I was planning on getting the new M2 12.9 as my very first iPad. But after seeing the price of GBP 1249 and the minimal difference between the M2 and M1, I quickly got the M1 at Amazon for GBP 960.
The M2, Pro apps (which I wouldnt use) and some hover function are not worth nearly GBP 300 for me.

If you're not using anything which will tax an iPad, and are concerned about price differences - why are you even looking at the top end model? Aside power and better hardware configs which only really benefit when using demanding apps, all iPads currently on sale or sold within the past couple of years will do 'normal' iPad stuff, save yourself a fortune and buy an air/base/mini instead. That is exactly my thoughts…. Amazon M1 256GB 12.9” is £1052 verses Apples M2 256GB 12.9” £1369 = £317 cheaper.
Err.. I’m not considering looking at the top end model (M2). I do though require the larger 12.9” so the M1 is much better than the M2. I do though run Apps that can be heavy on processors main & graphics but again the M2 is simply not worth it.If you're not using anything which will tax an iPad, and are concerned about price differences - why are you even looking at the top end model? So the "leap" to the M2 will be that noticeable? Come off it - if you are an active user of pro apps, you'd have bought a decent MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro for a few hundred pounds more rather than an iPad - which nice as they are (I have the 12.9 and 11 inch M1s) don't compare. You buy an iPad for the apps it runs not for the OS. You mean it’s a cover up for “Ghost Touch” 😜‘That weird hover feature’ is incredibly useful and finally brings it inline with one of the missing features from Wacom and the likes.
Apologies, you quoted the OP including their statement of not using pro apps.Err.. I’m not considering looking at the top end model (M2). I have several computers, an iPad Pro has it's place in my workflow. It's my main device, controlling all the others essentially. There are several things an iPad will do better than a Mac for my work, but several essential things I cannot do on an iPad.So the "leap" to the M2 will be that noticeable? From a practical perspective, if you want a big iPad there's no problem with buying the M1 over the grossly overpriced M2.
Sorry but No…. The OP is maxsquared, I quoted chsvicks.Apologies, you quoted the OP including their statement of not using pro apps.
Pretty tough decision…Brought it a couple of days ago, brought it for 1250 for 12.9 512gb. Shall I keep it and get the M2 for 1449?
OK? The person you quoted then, that's what I meant by OP - sorry for getting the lingo wrong 😂. What's your problem? I honestly don't care about your workflow - I apologised for misunderstanding that you didn't mean to imply what you implied, lets leave it eh?Sorry but No…. The OP is maxsquared, I quoted chsvicks.
When he/she/they mentioned M2 Pro Apps I took that as face value ‘M2 Pro Apps’.
I have no desire for any M2 Pro Apps but would use whatever Pro Apps use the M1.
Let’s face it; under the current iPadOS and 16, although the M2 does have benefits, I cannot believe for the Apps I use (Procreate to name but one) would show any significant differences to an M1.
If you just bought it, and you're still in the return window, return it for the new M2 model, just because its the same price. If you're outside the return window - then keep it. Great device, but know that you can now pick one up at a discounted price.Brought it a couple of days ago, brought it for 1250 for 12.9 512gb. Shall I keep it and get the M2 for 1449?
Current Apple corporate bean counter clowns making decisions that stupid or greedy apparently.First time I am not buying the latest and greatest. I was waiting for the 2022 upgrade of the iPad Pro. Yesterday I pulled the trigger and bought an iPad Pro 11" (2021) 256 GB and Cellular for 860 €. To me it is the same product as the 2022, because I don't need the extra Power of M2 and don't need the Hover feature (I don't use Apple Pencil). Just wanted a smaller iPad withProMotion (and wished it has MiniLED Display) that replaces my 12.9" iPadPro (2018). To me the new iPad (10th gen.) is absolutely overpriced and the features doesn't make any sense. You need a dongle to charge the Pencil ?!
Keep it and use the money to buy Magic Keyboard.Brought it a couple of days ago, brought it for 1250 for 12.9 512gb. Shall I keep it and get the M2 for 1449?
why on earth would you do that? spend £200+ for no reason?I would get the new one unless the old one was a mega deal, which it doesn’t seem it was.
Is it ‘no’ reason though? Or is that just your opinion on the refresh?why on earth would you do that? spend £200+ for no reason?

It’s a small refresh yes. If you use the power of an iPad it will make some difference. I think the next fresh is the one to wait for. But regardless- if you’re buying a new iPad at new prices, I would buy the current spec, not last years. Unless you’re getting a good deal for last years and you don’t want the newest tech. It’s basically the same device that’s slightly faster to do basically nothing crazy
