I have the $59 plan for 700min, free nights and weekends. Have been with them long before the iPhone and I just called and requested my early cancellation fee amount, the lady rep asked why I was canceling, I explained I purchased the iPad and felt taken advantage of because I'm currently paying $50 for data on the iPhone ($30 for data, $20 for texts). And another $30 for the iPad..

She said, "right"... then rattled off my cancellation fee, $125 and contract is up in June of '11 and said, "Thanks, have a nice day"..

As if I needed anymore validation to dump ATT..
Why is this validation to dump AT&T??? You asked her what your cancellation fee was, and she told you and even wished you a nice day. Did YOU ask here for a different rate or plan??? You didn't mention it here if you did. You shouldn't expect her to jump at offering you anything if you didn't ask for it, lol.

Oh yeah, I was so upset I forgot to type it, I asked if there was any "customer appreciation plan or discount" and she stated not on the iPhone...

So, because I have an iPhone that automatically disqualifies me from any "promos"? niicce...

But we don't really know the whole story. ATT has 100% control of every other phone they sell so they can be more flexible on pricing. The iPhone is different b/c Apple dictates so much of the terms. It's quite possible that the plans ATT has are the plans it needs to make a decent profit selling the phone exclusively.

If you were looking for the plan OP got (not convinced it's really better, just different) then you should call back and mention the specific deal and even give them the link to the post. Many time -- no most times -- CSRs don't have the tenure to know all the "secret" plans. I find if you know of a plan and can tell them you say it at X place they will at least research it.

The title has now been updated to alleviate any confusion.

Now it's even more misleading than my original title! Just delete the post. I apologize, just trying to be clever in my title and clearly it was the wrong choice.

I didn't get a discount for having a data plan or ipad plan or whatever you new title is. I called to get my cancellation fee. She looked at the different plans availble to anyone in my region or area code or whatever and said there was a plan available that could save me $20 per month compared to what I was currently paying. I said cool thanks I'll take it. No customer loyalty discount no plan combo discount. Just a different plan that accomodated my needs and save me $20 thus making it easier to swallow an unlimited ipad data plan. That's all.

I've been thinking of just switching to a pre-paid plan for my iPhone, and then getting a data plan for the iPad 3G. I think at&t is charging us another $30 for iPad data plan because they can. The more people will start complaining and looking for other alternatives, the sooner is at&t going to do something about it.

Always call your phone providers. When I dropped my iPhone and switched to CREDO I called and ended up getting my phone normally $50 with a contract free and 25% off my bill for the first 12 months. Also contract buyout, but thats something they advertise.

I went to the AT&T store a bit ago and asked to change my rate plan but they say I'm on the lowest one ($49/mo 550 Rollover & Unlimited Night/Weekend & Unlimited Mobile-To-Mobile Minutes). Unhappy with how quickly that failed I decided to call AT&T service line. The service rep looked at my account and verified I barely use my minutes for the past couple months and it would be viable to switch to a lower minute plan.

I mentioned that I spoke with a "friend of mine" and he mentioned a 1000 minute/no rollover plan for $39. I was put on hold for a few minutes while the rep asked around. The service rep asked me when my friend switched to plan and I replied with about a week ago. He then asks me who my friend talked to and I told him that he didn't mention who it was.

Finally he said that they don't have any sort of plan like that and it looks like I'm stuck on the cheapest family plan they have :(

I am assuming that this change was also associated with a new 2 year contract starting all over again. I am just throwing that out, since I know a lot of people do not realize that changes in plans causes a new contract. At least that's the way Verizon worked in the past. It may surprise people when they try to upgrade to the next gen iPhone.

For ATT changes in plans do not cause a renewal in contract. I know because we (family) have switched plans month to month before.

i am waiting for my 3g ipad ( its taking too long ) but i wanted the 3g because where i go on vacation there is no wifi so for an 10 hr ride pluse 2 weeks where there is no wifi i needed the 3g. so if i really wanted 3g i just put my iphone sim in there and boom internet. i feel the mod is well worth my time and money. one other thing it would be cool if i jailbreak my ipad and since i have my iphone sim in there if it would notify me if i haad a call or text i wouldent respond, but i think that would be a super cool app or program for a jailbroken ipad:D

I am on a 450 minute plan for $39.99. I get free nights and weekends and free mobile-to-mobile, in addition to rollover minutes. As far as I know this is not a special plan. They should at least offer you that. I too use hardly any minutes per month.

I pay $30 for data, $10 for 1500 texts, and I get a discount. My bill is about $71 each month. Before anyone says my math is wrong please note that I get a discount. The discount was not applicable to my original EDGE iPhone but when I got my 3GS it suddenly reappeared and of course I did not question it.

I was happy AT&T lowered my unlimited everything iPhone plane to 99/mo a few months ago. Inread about it here and it was a simple switch.

Is that your only phone? I used to be on that plan until I switched to a family plan which required me to have my current plan.

Has nothing to do with the iPad

This thread has nothing to do with the iPad. Basically all you did was call att, threaten to cancel (maybe not threatened but asking about a cancellation fee is the same thing) and customer retention rep did what they're trained to do and did what they had to do to keep you as a customer by offering you the cheaper plan so you don't leave AT&T. You having an iPad has nothing to with the result.
