Can you transfer it over in Australia as we only have 1 Apple store and it's on the other side of the country to me!

One? I don't think so. There's two in NSW, one in Victoria (soon to be 2), and soon to be one in QLD. There's bound to be one in every state soon enough.

When exactly is the new one supposed to come out and what's going to make it so much better? Just curious because I want to buy one soon.

I for one place large importance on video cards and when the iMacs are updated they'll surely switch to the Nvidias which is a big difference. Also a switch to ddr3 ram instead of ddr2. Better processors as well.

I don't even think the iMacs are using montevina yet.

Congratulations on both the switch and the iMac- I have one and love it to pieces, best computer I've owned.

Here's some tips and home truths for you-

Everything does NOT 'Just work'. But it does work a lot better than Windows ever did for me and the major probs are few and far between.

Try to get out of PC habits and learn 'The Mac Way'. I know that sounds a bit fanboyish, but trust me- sometimes it is better.

Don't be afraid to ask. There are some feckless curmudgeons on here, but by and large they're a lovely bunch ;)

Prepare to be set apart from the rest of society- as a Mac user you will be on the outer fringe :D

Look forward to the first time someone asks 'So where's the box bit?' I never get tired of that.

Enjoy! I hope you get as many hours joy from your iMac as I have and no doubt will continue to do.

Q: What's the only things more disappointing than finding out your new Mac was just made "old" by Apple's latest announcement of a new one?

A: Waiting to buy one until the new one comes out, and finding out Apple did not update them when you expected.

New Macs are never certain, no matter how strong the rumor mill is running. Just check some of the stories around here of those who waited only to be frustrated with their decision when Apple's release schedule was not as certain as people thought. Chasing upgrades is a never-ending agony, but getting that new iMac now and starting to use it right away will be a pure joy from day one. Besides, the advancements in any single upgrade are overrated most of the time nowadays.

Enjoy your new iMac! You are in for a treat these next couple of months as you play with it and discover all it is capable of.

enjoy that sweet mac
i was recently trying to decide on a new imac purchase, wait or get a current model
i got the 24 inch 3.06 ghz model with 500 gig hd and 4 gig ram
and to sweeten it all i got off ebay with applecare and shipping included
for 2000
it was used for 3 months and the previous owner had to sell due to hard times

it arrived in flawless condition
used as it may be and maybe new models coming soon
i am still happy with my choice
and i sure you will love yours as well
merry christmas :D

Congratulations!
I also can't wait until Christmas because I am getting my first Mac, a 2.4 GHZ 250GB HD Blackbook.

Congrats OP!

Don't listen to the bad people; you'll computer will have small fault in a few months, Apple will attempt to fix it, then your computer will not work and the you'll get the updated model for free as an replacement. Speaking from experience here.

Ignore these people

Please feel free to ignore everyone who is expressing their regrets on your behalf that a new model will be available in early 2009. These people generally fall into two categories: those who have money to burn and love to buy the newest hardware at each release, and those who never buy anything because they are always afraid the next iteration will be better.

I have a 20" aluminum iMac I bought about 9 months ago when switching. It's quick, runs all the software I need, has never had virus, malware, crashing, BSOD, or other common MS problems, and I love it. And another reason people love Apple is that your iMac should last you several years if you take care of it--lots of people on these forums still run G4s without any problems.

Congratulations--I hope you enjoy your iMac for many years to come.:D

Very true statements.
My laptop PC I have had since last Christmas...
The port for charging it is dead (so I have to charge my battery with my mom's computer) and it's slow as crap.
iHate Windows Vista.

He's gonna be real excited 2 weeks after Christmas when a better model comes out.

the new one will prolly have some minor problems the first month of release...either with the mac or snow leapord...besides speed or more space the overall model will prolly not change too much

Even if a new iMac comes out, your iMac will still kick butt. :)
I have a 20" iMac and it's so much better than the family PC I used to use.

I have the 09 iMac everyone is talking about and it isn't as great a jump up.

well, no I am on an 08 iMac and it is just fine. you will love it.
enjoy it as it will be a great computer for years.

Some people can't handle knowing they have an "older" computer and not the lastest gen. I bought a used iMac 20" off here a little over a month ago and I will be perfectly happy with for a long time. I'm also the type of that refuses to pay retail for pretty much anything, I like to find deals and buy most stuff refurbished/used.

I have the same computer as the OP and it is a great computer, it is best computer I have ever used.

Wow, any other insider information? You must know people in high places.

I've been saving all year for an iMac, and I've got the same specced model sitting under my bed until Christmas, driving me insane. I feel your pain!

And I wouldn't worry about the update, my iMac's going to do everything I wanted it to do and more, I'm sure.

I just bought a 20" iMac last Friday...Even if the new iMacs do come out...would they release an improved $1300 model?

(It's not every day I fork out $1,300 for a computer...but if a new Mac was to come out I really wouldn't care anyways :p. Two 2.4Ghz cores is fine for me!)

I just bought my first ever Mac!

After many, many years using PC's (my first one had a 386 processor, about 3 centuries ago...), I finally decided to migrate to Mac, since now you can run AutoCAD and other architectural programs in a Windows environment.
I puchased an iMac with 4Gb of memory, a 1 Terabyte HD and an external 320 Gb HD for back-up purposes, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 20" monitor and, to top the cake, I also downloaded Parallels Desktop 4.0. The Windows will be Vista Home Premium 32 bits.

The bad new is that I still have to wait 2 days to get it...

Anyway, I am quite excited, because my oldest son kept telling me: Dad, you're a perfect idiot, change to a Mac and you shall never more think about a PC. As an old Mac user, he is probably right. You see, in these present days, kids are the teatchers, and fathers the humble students...:apple:

Great move - be Happy with your new Christmas present !
I made the move from the WinTel platform in May with my first iMac - It's a little weird at first but worth getting used to.
Don't let the Muppets on this board diminish your new toy joy - just enjoy !

You guys are terrible. I bought my new imac the day after Thanksgiving....I waited for months for a new imac to come out which everyone predicted and it didn't happen. With the discount on Black Friday and my husband's discount we got over $300 off the price so to me - that was fantastic and something I wouldn't be able to do when the 09 imac comes out. Technology is always changing, so you're always going to be one step behind.
