I was recently in Norway helping my aunt upgrade her iMac to ML. She was still on Leopard (10.5.4 I think), so I had to order her a copy of Snow Leopard - or so I thought. When the Snow Leopard DVD finally arrived, I began to prepare her computer for installation by running Software Update. One of the items in Software Update was a OS X combo update, which to my surprise brought her computer all the way up to 10.6.8 w/ App Store. It turns out I didn't need to order SL after all. Knowing that would have saved a lot of time and a few NOKs.

sigh i give up... i tried everything, but my mac refuses to install ML... i even formatted my HDD (i forgot to make a back up thinking i already had one, but i dont think there was really anything important on there anyway, besides the pictures which i got on my mac :)

i'll just have to remember some software i installed and reinstall it but ugh... this is by far the worst upgrade ever!! Lion was quick and easy, wonder why ML is being such a PIA (to quite a few of us)

got ML finally. the process was extremely long nad painful.. and now i'm not sure if its worth it ...

i wiped my HD, reinstalled SL, updated everything and then i created a bootable USB with ML. Initially i used the dmg but that didn't work out, so i mounted it, and used the mounted drive as my source in disk util. then everything went perfectly...

i wonder if i really did need to wipe.. oh well my computer is running faster nad smoother than before...

I don't always think it's the dmg's fault. The problem may lie somewhere between the seat and the keyboard

I had no problem upgrading my new i5 2.3 mini to mountain lion. Just double clicked the installer icon. It rebooted and I selected the external usb ssd I got. And it installed right away. No issues. Clean install. No lion or snow leopard first.
