It's been well over a week now, and the magic hasn't worn off. I am continually amazed at how this iPad continues to personalize my digital life. It just makes everything I do more fun. It has been endlessly useful in maybe 85% of what I need to do with a computer on a typical day. It is everything I hoped it would be and I just love it.

But reading posts about people returning them, exchanging them for 3G models, etc..., has made me wonder: what would it be like for me if I decided to trade up? I have become so attached to MY iPad, I don't think I could part with exactly this one that I bought. It's almost like a pet or something.

I need help, I'm sure.

im with ya.. in fact each day I get home from work the first thing I do is plop down on my couch and turn on the iPad. i love this little thing.

I'm waiting to have that feeling hahaha all the apple stores have sold out and i "reserved" one for the next shipment which who knows when that will be :(

The wait for the 3G is killing me! I've almost broke down a few times and bought the wifi model. Been to best buy 3 times just to play with it! Haha
I think holding out for the 3G will be worth it. Having the 3G and being able to use the iPad anywhere is going to be great. I wish we atleast had a real date for it tho..
I need answers!!

You don't need 3G! That's what your iPhone is for!

I know. Trust me I'm so back and forth on it.
The money I would save would really help out righ now too.
I just know if I get the wifi only I will be wishing I got the 3G in the long run.

I like it so much I'm returning it and waiting for 3g. I just want to use it everywhere without hacks, or mifis or whatever.

I just wanna take it out alone, and BOOM. In use. Anywhere. Anytime.

I hear ya. I am sitting in my backyard in the sun by the pool with a drink as I type this now. So nice.

I love mine too but not enough to give At&t my $ every month, can't afford it so Wifi fits my situation perfectly. The iPad really is a marvel.

Exactly what I'm saying! :)
the GPS will be a nice plus also.

Again, iPhone has my GPS. Plus it doesn't cost me $30 extra a month, and we know how reliable AT&T's 3G service is. It's not worth the money! Get the wifi. I don't use mine walking down the street, although I was able to get wifi out in the city park! Just my 2 cents.

For those with wifi model: is google maps still pretty accurate?
And if your not hooked to wifi does it still find your location?
Thanks.

Damn you! Your swaying me! :) I thought I was unswayable! Haha.
Man I think you might be right. I already pay $100+ a month on my iPhone AND pay for ATT Internet at home AND for a ATT USB laptop card. Your right. They don't need anymore of my money. I always have my iPhone and I guess I can rely on that for the 3G when needed..

LOL, only trying to help my friend. I thought the same thing and have found my iPhone to be sufficient when I don't have wifi. Sorry to make your decision harder! :D

No need to apologize. I think you actually helped me out. I'm seeing the light :)
My iPhone has served me for 2 years just fine. And the more I think about it I don't want to give ATT any more of my money. Wifi is becoming pretty wide spread and I'm sure it will only get better.
Camping or something like that is when I thought it would be nice to have the 3G but as you said, I'll still have my iPhone! :)
thanks.

If you could, let me know what happens when you try google maps with no wifi when you get a chance.

People talk about it 3g being too much but all you have to do is be realistic about it.

Try out 250mb a month and track your usage. That's 15 dollars. That's a lunch or two. Make a sandwich, eat cereal and leave mcdonalds and ihop alone. Probably better for your health too.

And you got yourself a good 20+ bucks. Plus, there is absolutely NO contract so you can stop any day. Money is tight, stop 3g. Things are good, add it back on. Simple.

Use wifi when available and 3g when needed and maybe you'll be under 250mb.

People complain about at&t and taking money and this and that.. but think about your life and all you spend on other misc stuff. It all adds up too. I know people spending 40 bucks on a gym membership and they go like twice a month.... like that makes sense?

Ideally, with an iPhone 30 dollar unlimited plan, a 15 dollar add on should get you unlimited iPad coverage, but that isn't the case. My logic is, I'll only be using 3g on the go. That's in the car (not driving of course), waiting for appointments, etc. Those times, I'll probably be surfing the web, email, twitter, social network checks, etc. Movie downloads, video stream will probably be under wifi anyway. I don't think people I'm with will like me watching a movie while I'm around them... For my use, 250mb a month is plenty to go along with my iPhone plan.

Like other people have said, it's not like I'll be walking down the street and busting out the iPad to update my facebook account. This is more for leisure sit down times when you wanna pass the time. iPhone is quick on the go ready at any moment device. iPad is luxury. Sit, relax, and connect. Enjoy.

Since owning the iPad these are various places I wish I had been connected...

At the movies waiting for a movie
Lunch break down the street from work
Long car rides on the weekend, visiting family - not driving
Traffic - not driving
Waiting for appointments
Cabo airport, wifi was not free
During a wedding reception (hah!)

And this is like in the last 9 days...

Plus, going to the iPhone after iPad usage, your iPhone feels dinky and outdated. My once, treasured iPhone now feels dinky lol.

Will do. I'll post tomorrow and let you know.

Agreed - love it. Work, personal, portability, ease of use - has made huge quality of life difference for me. 3G or Wifi ? Have not once wished for the 3G. But hey - that's my .02 cents.:D

Last week I rode an Amtrak train for 4 hours and then was at a hotel all weekend that only had wired internet available.

Brutal.

That was 3 solid days of REALLY wishing I had 3G on my iPad.

The iPad is WAY less cool when no Internet is available.
