I need a bag for my MBP & School books..(Yea I've searched..)

I've done some searching and all that comes up is people with messenger bags, or people with bags for hiking, carrying some type of SLR camera, riding bicycles/motorcycles, or all of the above. I just need a bag for school that can carry my 15'' MBP and also put my books in (about 2-3) with some folders and binders. The closest thing I can come up with is this timbuk 2 track day pack..but would love to know if any1 has any other suggestions, or have that timbuk2 bag and their experiences. Thanks!

Yea but I've already looked into those bags, And I felt that the OP in that thread wasnt as specific as me. I already have a MBP, and need a bag now, rather than later.:)

I have the large Convertible which I bought to be dual-purpose to swallow both the Macbook and 17" MBP. The good thing is that when I have the Macbook in it I have plenty of space for other junk. The Convertible is because it turns into a backpack from a shoulder bag.
 
i'm a college student, as well, and i went ahead and got a regular ole backpack that also had a laptop compartment (there are plenty of 'em in your local stores like office depot, etc), and then i'm going to get a vyper sleeve for extra padding.
 
eBags has a good selection of bags at good prices. I bought a North Face Modem for $40 and it's done the job. Although I would suggest a sleeve to better protect your computer when it's in the built-in sleeve of the backpack. My iBook isn't damaged, but it has light scuffs on it.
 
I'll put in my 2 cents and say that Brenthaven is fantastic.

Next year, though, I will be buying a shoulder case or sleeve just for the laptop, and then a normal backpack for books. I find it very infrequent during the school year where I need to bring both my books and laptop out - it's usually just one or the other. Just a thought for while you're making your decision.
 
There was a post the other day about how getting a laptop shoulder bag just makes it obvious that you have a laptop, and therefore makes it a target to be stolen. In a university setting, I'm not sure I'd want to advertise that much... but some schools are safer than others.

I agree with what you're saying. I use a Booq Vyper sleeve and a North Face backpack with laptop compartment to carry around my MacBook. I like this setup, because when I need to take my laptop, I'm not broadcasting that I'm carrying one. I love the North Face backpack, but at the Apple Store yesterday, I saw a new Incase backpack that looked great. I think if i were buying a backpack now, I'd probably go for that one. From the short time I looked at it, it felt like it was really well-made.
 
I suggest looking at TUMI bags. My boyfriend got me one for my birthday last year when I had my PowerBook G4, but it fits my MacBook Pro just fine. Plus, the bags look nice.
 
I would say that my Brenthaven messenger bag looks pretty much like a normal messenger bag. It doesn't scream "Laptop case."
 
I was in your same situation last summer. I read through hundreds of posts on here and went to all sorts of stores and finally settled on the Dakine Duel (http://www.ebags.com/dakine/duel_pack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=41280) It comes in several colors.

I was looking for something that didn't look like a laptop bag, that could be used as a regular backpack as well, had protection for the laptop, and looked good. I've been really happy with it. I have a 15" PowerBook and it fits well. The compartment for the laptop is really nice because the zipper is on the side. It makes sliding the PB in and out really easy. For me, it's the perfect college laptop bag!

PS - I think it looks better in person than online.
 
Okay, this is kind of a suggestion and part question at the same time:
Backpack suggestion: I have an Ogio Nyquist, the 2005 model can be had from eBags for 44 bucks or something like that, and it has a nice padded laptop compartment/pocket... (fits MBP, but I have a MB)

The question I had is: what kind of sleeve or something can I put my MacBook in to put inside an already padded pocket..? Would a waterfield sleeve, normal kind (perhaps with a flap), be fine? or a stm sleeve or an tekstyl Omni SM or what?
 
best buy sells a really nice swiss army backpack. its about $80 dollars, and has a nice 15.4" compartment. its another route to try. personally I think I might pick up one of those http://www.brenthaven.com/ dual core what ever jargon it was backpacks. but I'd still use a sleve.

Can you fit your Laptop and a few big text books with that?

What about Brenthaven? If I got their backpack the one for 17" would I be able to still fit a bunch of books?
 
I know my Ogio Nyquist can fit a 15 incher with some big text books. Its surprisingly roomy inside.

The Ogio Metro/Metroid seems like a good choice if you want to fit obscene amounts of stuff in it.

I really like the Metroid and Metro... but they don't fit the 17"... to bad. Thank you for your help though... I really liked them
