Same where I work. Everyone took home stuff they were not supposed to, like docking stations and ergo sit/stands and whatnot. And frequently, it was not from their own cubicles. Then, when they are asked for committing to working some hours "in office", they are wanting IT to buy them duplicate equipment or resupply the cubicles that have been pillaged.
We got lucky: when this all hit we were told “if you want it, take it - but only from your own desk”.

When we do start back at the office it’ll now only be part time hotel desks in a brand new office, so getting rid of all the tech from the old place worked out.

Oh man, the forms I had to fill out to get my computer home! I think the IT department had some idea of what computers they’d gotten me, but one wasn’t even in the database. I finally called on the last day, and the grudgingly allowed me to take my iMac home. I haven’t seen my office in over a year, wondering what it will look like in August!

I don't have one in my area. Have never shopped at Costco before. I think the nearest one is 3 hours south in Massachusetts.
Go to costco.com then. You don't even have to be a member. Only downside is that all their M1 units have just 8GB memory. Also, contrary to what's been stated, you don't have to return it at a store; you can ship it back.

No new hardware announced. I've purchased an M1 MacBook Pro w/ 16GB of RAM + 1TB SSD. Would have preferred it be a 14" M1X MacBook Pro with 32GB + 2TB and improved graphics along with an SD Card slot but hopefully this machine will only see a 20-30% drop in resale value when it's made obsolete in the next 6 months.

Thanks everyone for the dialogue.

My neighbors wife is a real estate agent and she had a 2017 MBP with the 15 inch and unfortunately dropped it a week ago. I told her the 14 and 16 were not being released she was bummed so she got the 13MBP spec like yours. She is shocked at the speed, smoothness, ect. I helped her set it up and transferred her data and all. She loves it. She plans on keeping hers.

Yep, it's a fine machine. The truth is, I don't do a lot of heavy media lifting while mobile. I'm in Montana for one week shooting an event next week and while I MAY see how Lightroom & Photoshop do on it with the RAW images and 4K HEVC video dailies, I personally struggle to be productive on a small screen. The 16" with discreet graphics and 32GB of RAM I sold 15 months ago when I was sent home and not allowed to travel for a year was a beast BUT insanely hot and terrible battery life compared to the M1 MBP but it was a superior machine

1. more RAM
2. more storage
3. More I/O
4. more cores
5. More pixels

My iMac at home (in my signature) has 27+32" of displays and is infinitely more powerful than my M1 MBP thanks to the Radeon 48 and a ton of RAM and 9900K Intel chip so I'll gladly keep that as my workhorse.

I AM excited though. In the next 12 months, we'll have a proper iMac Pro replacement with hopefully 32 cores of Apple Silicone and 128GB of RAM and we'll have a 16" replacement with 16 cores of CPU and hopefully 16 GPU.

I would echo picking up the 13inch MBP M1, however, I have had my 16 MPB 1TB model for little over 8 months so far, and I have been pretty pleased with its performance. Battery life is great, and the screen real estate is fantastic while on the go or working on the couch. I have also had seamless use of connecting it to a USB monitor - although the fans do spin up. I don't mind the fan noise though. You can grab my current model on Amazon for $300 off brand new - not a bad deal at all. I want to keep an intel machine in my lineup so I can run Windows 10 via bootcamp. I ordered a 13 inch MBP M1 (8 GB Ram/512 SSD) to compliment this machine. Waiting on it to arrive now - I couldn't pass up the $200 savings during Memorial Day weekend.

Having worked now on the 13" M1, I do miss the 16" screen. It feels cramped in pretty much every application. I did some Lightroom & Final Cut work on Saturday and it wasn't unusable but I had to get creative with the tool placements.
