So nothing has been announced on the new ones and well I am losing it over here, I just want to the Pencil for my class notes, I guess if I don't really use my iPad for anything intense, should I even worry about the A9X being a year old chip. My biggest concern buying the Pro is iOS 11 gets unveiled and the Pro wont support all its new features, mainly due to 2 Gbs of ram, is that enough, they have had 2Gb of ram now for awhile and I feel like it will become a performance issue within the next year. Or Im just way to paranoid. If I don't use my iPad for more than web browsing, Netflix, RSS reader, and PDF's/notability would the current Pro fulfil the needs for awhile, like at least 4 years.

If you can wait, I'd tell you to wait. But if the bug has you then buy. The current iPad Pro will be good for a few years to come. Apple won't send it to the scrap heap too soon. For what you're using it for the current one will last you for a few good years. But, if you can wait you'll have a cutting edge machine that will last even longer.

I think you're worrying to much about the future of the iPad and what will be supported and if you want it for purposes you listed, then purchase it and enjoy it for what it's worth for the time being. I think the 9.7 inch iPad Pro easily be supported through iOS 11, being it's only a-year-old at this point. It's more than capable handling your tasks and two GB of RAM is not necessarily a huge downfall, depending on what you're using it for.

My thoughts are the iPad 9.7 Pro would easily be supported through the next two years, but that's a guess at best.

Is there an app that's good for taking notes, but with your finger?
Sadly no

Yah I think the bug is getting the better of me, I'm starting to come to my senses, but damn for a moment I was convinced I needed to buy it, temptations a bi**tch

So much for your promising about the iPad announcement./S You're relying to heavily on an unreliable an uncertain future for a product that has no disclosure when a new iPad will announce/debut. Being in your in high school, you honestly couldn't wait six months or less if a new iPad were to debut? Or are you that instigated where you have to have one now.

I think invites this week, event next week. Something is going to happen I promise

Obviously I realized that hence my panic attack post now ;):D

I'm just giving you a hard time. You just have to ask yourself if you have the initiative to want to wait and see what happens for the iPad line or if you really need the 9.7 iPad Pro sooner than later.

I have an Air 2 and bought the ipp 9.7" because I thought the photo editing software I use was going to release an ipad version. So I would need the pencil. They are planning to release an ipad version but evidently not as soon as I thought.
Other than that, my uses are similar to yours. I can see absolutely no benefit from using the ipp 9.7 over the Air 2. So why do I want another???
Oh, I am convinced there's gonna be some big improvement especially with ios 11. Also, like you, I want hardware that can keep up with the software.
But you will feel so much better financially if you just wait for the next release. Hopefully the new ipads will coincide with ios 11.
I have daughters/grandaughters I pass off the ipads to as I get another. I am not an extravant person, just with ipads! :)

I'd just buy it. I was trying to decide the same thing in January and bought the 12.9 because I felt like the march release was gonna be false, correct. It's a great machine, and it's blistering fast. The Air 2 still runs amazing at it's age. and Apple just released a iPad with the same ram and a lesser processor, I'd say the 9.7 will easily last 4 years ( the Air 2 has lasted 3 years now....). I would recommend you buy a refurbished one from Apple. I got a refurbished 12.9 and it's absolutely perfect, was cheaper, and I didn't have to pay Apple full price for something they invented in late 2015.

No the Surface is rather pathetic, poor battery life, and the 5 is rumored have just a fresh generation of Kaby Lake processors so that's isn't anything special and I certainty wont be blown away by it :D:D:D

Do you need it now? If not I would wait unless there was a good deal on the current model.

But if you need it you need it and I would expect you'll get plenty of life out of it.
The only thing that I would actually use that I cant do now is the Apple Pencil. The rest is just sorta getting a fresh iPad that is faster and more refined.

You are way too paranoid. 2GB ram will be enough for the next 3 years

You should definitely wait! Invites for the event where Apple announces the new iPad Pros will go out any day. Give or take a few months. iOS 11 is going to have so many killer features that even the current 12.9 iPad Pro with 4GB will be taxed. If you buy the current Pro, you will regret it every day that you own it once the updated version is released.

Of course I'm being facetious considering that you have been so gung-ho that a new model will be released any day.

I doubt ios 11 will tax the current Pro line but i do agree waiting is best and for all we know Apple could have a May event up its sleeve

I say don't wait. Go pick up a 12.9" and the Pencil. You'll love it. That's what you wanted to hear, right? Lol

Apples new 2017 iPad replacing the Air 2 uses the slower A9 chip and the same 2 gigs of ram. Do you think they would release a new iPad with those specs this year, then shortly after release their newest OS that requires more than 2gb?

I think you should buy one. Heck buy two. You'll love it. They are fantastic. What are you waiting for? Go buy one right now.
Your not helping :D:D:p

Considering that's a low end iPad I wouldn't expect it to support all the Pro features, yes I wouldn't be surprised if iOS 11 leveraged some of that 4Gb ram and the ones with 2Gb wouldn't be able to do some fancy new things

I've had the iPP 12.9 for a week now...it works like a dream. No regrets for me! Go get one :D
It's very tempting except the one I want isn't availble until May 8th. :( Maybe that means something though...:)I'm taking my chances reading the tea leaves.
