have yet to use it on my new iPad Air 4, probably used it like 3 times on my iPad Pro before that. I don’t even like to do FaceTime calls on the iPad. I prefer to do video calls in landscape but the camera obviously isn’t centered in landscape which is irritating so I use my MacBook for calls

What would grandma or Uncle Bob do at weddings, if they couldn't hold their iPad up to take video?

I've used iPad cameras a lot. No, I don't use it to take pictures at events or while I'm traveling. I usually use it when I need to take a picture of something and do something with it on a large screen right away. For example, I've used it a lot for projects around the house. It's really handy to be able to take a picture and mark it up right away with an Apple Pencil. Sure, I could take the picture on my iPhone but it's more convenient to do it all on one device.

I've recently being more on Discord, including using it on my iPad.

When I want to post a quick photo on a server, it's easier to just do it on the same iPad.

The camera is there likely because Apple can't possibly predict EVERY use case, so... just in case you ever need it. If you don't, don't use it. I doubt Apple wants to add yet more SKUs to the ever increasing number of models.

I use my iPad Mini 5's cameras quite often. I like the added space for the view finder and for image editing. I only wish it had iPad Pro quality cameras.

Plus, I love the incredulous looks, giggles, and, head shaking I get from the under 50 crowd that only do things approved by strangers on social media.

The only time that I have used my iPad's camera is when I scan my credit card if I'm purchasing something from a site where they don't accept Apple Pay or where I don't have my CC info saved. Otherwise, I never use use the camera on my iPad.

As others have pointed out, the iPad camera is useful for scanning document and similar business functions. Others make much more extensive use of the camera, but this seems to be a small group. Personally, I wish there were a variant of the iPad Pro with only one rear camera that is flush with the rest of the iPad. I don't care whether it's cheaper or not -- I'd prefer it.

i'm down with bigger battery for the iphone. Heck wish apple used a thicker back on the iphone mini to make the battery bigger.

I'd be totally okay with an iPad that had no camera at all. Big screen (13 inch or higher), Touch ID, 4GB RAM, LCD, headphone jack, and a decent price would draw me in. Of course this will never happen so...

I'm on a first gen 12.9.

What would you consider a decent price?

Yes those are great specs. Agreed on the headphone jack. I actually bought a 3.5mm earpod last week. I wish I can easily use it with my iPad for gaming, AirPods are kinda annoying sometimes... but I don’t have a usb-c dongle.

I’ve used the camera on my iPad for the sake of simplicity (and utility) here at home. So I like the camera on the iPad but don’t think it needs flashy optics. Honestly, how and where would I need OIS in my tablet? Going for a run with it?

I would gladly pay extra for the iPad Pro to get the same cameras as the latest iPhones. Partly because I am still using a 8+, so my phone camera isn’t much better either.

I use the camera on my iPad when I sell thing on eBay. Way easier to be able to take the photo of the items to sell while filling out the description instead of the phto/import/post cycle if I do it on my desktop.

I never have used the camera on the iPad’s I have owned. Are there others out there like me? Why does the iPad have a camera? Why wouldn’t Apple offer an iPad without a camera, one that would be less expensive?
I barely ever used the Cameras on my iPad 4 and Air 2, but I have been using the Cameras on my 2020 iPad Pro 11” as they actually do produce some pretty good and usable images, especially if I am just taking a quick pic of something while I am using the iPad e.g. A pic of what I am watching while in a group chat on my iPad Pro etc...

However, I do completely agree with you, Apple should make an alternative iPad e.g. an iPad SE 10.2 (or 9.7 inch?) with no camera (except front facing one) and a A12 Bionic at a reduced price.

That would probably cost them more than having just one SKU for the basic iPad (well, at least 12 based on color, capacity and WiFi/Cellular).

It's not like they're using high end cameras for low end iPads. As far as I'm aware, the basic iPads have iPhone 5/5s level cameras. I think it might actually be the same as Air 2's so they could probably buy those super cheap.

But imagine the iPhone were slightly thicker so the bump would be gone and flush and the additional room could be used - at least partially - for an even better battery...

One can dream

The only problem I see with this is that that "slight" thickness would likely add more mass than you realize, especially if it's used to fit in an even larger battery, and some people already complain that the Pro Max is too heavy and tiring to hold. It's not just a matter of minimizing thickness, but also minimizing weight.
