Swappa is better than ebay or apps like Offer-up as you can't even list on Swappa unless the device is paid-off and not listed as IMEI blocked. I'm sure that a talented scammer can find ways around anything to steal someones money or property, but I have been buying and selling on Swappa for a couple of years and never had an issue.

I've sold 25 devices on swappa with no issues at all. I just sold an X last week for $435. I always am honest in condition with lots of detailed and well lit photos of different angles of device. Ship priority with insurance and signature confirmation. Get receipt from post office that shows it was dropped off and I will sometimes snap photos of the contents of the box within the post office and one of box taped up. That way I have time stamped photos within minutes of it being scanned in.

disagree. ive had every opportunity to trade my iPhone X in for $400 to Apple but instead sold it on Swappa for $520 (net to me). ymmv but overall i will always attempt to sell on Swappa first before trading it in anywhere.
Well obviously it depends on the model and condition. Most seem to be selling in the $400-$500 range. By the time you take off Paypal fees and listing fees and shipping, it may not be worth bothering, but of course you have to do the math. Used iPhones don't have the resale value they used to, that's for sure.

"Back in the day" I flipped a few brand new ones and made some pretty good money.
