With so many upgrades in your future... You should have just gone with the Mac Pro and been done with it. The new one will probably be fine for your needs although likely it's not going to be faster. Next upgrade is Broadwell.

I did consider the pro. But I would barely use even one of the video cards. And my cat would have issues with it. And with the 512 SSD it is $$$. She likes the mini.

Finally someone found a decent use for a computer :D:D

I could still throw the $1100 I hope to get for my old one at the girls :)

so that old mini was beyond a shadow of a doubt a pus-sy magnet

The plot thickens. I changed my order to this:

Ironically it was becasue of the cat photo that I decided to switch. I do not mind her on the computer and maybe speeding up the fan, but I do not like the way she leans on the wires, putting stress on the connections.

And, becasue I figured why not go for the full monty. Life is short, and I am pretty sure I will like that monitor.

A mini lover forever, but I think the neater desk and hi rez will more than make up for the lack of mini.

I will most likely put more ram in it when I get it. But 8 should do fine for starters.

It will take many more days to arrive :(

Well at least you came to your senses.

Well, it is a very hard decision, but I do think I am doing the right thing. My eyes will appreciate it for sure, and I believe that is a desktop class CPU that should be fine. I basically blog and FTP website files and watch training videos, so that should be more than enough power. I had to trade off something and I figured the added video Ram would serve best for possible resale. Also, the CPU is fully swappable, assuming one can get the darn thing apart.

The biggest negative is less for the ladies :(

lol I keep saying it: that pus-sy is a game changer! If only it knew how much power it has.

Congrats on your upgradable ram. I'm looking forward to getting a 4k/5k monitor in the next few years.

Thanks. Yeah, this is coming sooner than I expect. I hope I like it. It is a big move.

And sometimes, as many of us know, a big change can go either way. I do expect to like it. And yet at the same time an all in one makes me nervous about repairs. And heat issues. I am putting my faith in Apple. I am trusting that their engineers are aware of heat and its potential issues. I mean, isn't that what they do?

For some crazy reason, the darn pixels on my Dell IPS 24 inch have gotten much bigger, ever since the 5k made its appearance, LOL!

Beautiful machine. although you left the Mini ranks and joined the iMac ranks you made a much wiser decision than that over priced Mini that you would never get your money back on. Good Luck. :)

Crap. Now I don't know what to do I was heart set on the new one. But best buy is selling the 2012 model for 399, found an open box and used movers coupon brought it to 341.99 went to 360 with tax. I guess ill just be using this model with 16gb ram.

Hmmm, I actually had not thought of that. A definite side bonus!

Yeah, the mini was my first mac ever. But as me and my eyes get older, I am hoping the iMac will serve me well too.

Does your cat use stuff you buy her? I bought mine a bed and she won't use it she lays on the couch or the bed, or a suit case on the floor.

All these 2014's being returned by people who are getting 2012's instead means that 2014's will show up soon on the refurb store as well.

The value proposition will be a bit better at that point. :D
