Well that might have something to do with the specs of each computer. That would be like saying
"My G3 biege Power Mac does not run the newest PhotoShop, there for a Quad Based PowerMac G5 can't either!"
My brother runs Office on his iMac G4(similar to your iBook if you bought tthe newest one) and it runs fine. Not as fast as my iMac G5 but most anyone would say thats logical
But if you don't want one, don't get it. However i would say you reason are not well thought out, as Mac OS X does office stuff just as good as XP.
Perhaps you want MS Office, and you fear the MacBook will be to slow with running a PPC app, and you don't want to wait for Universal MS Office, that would be logical, but i would say try it with extra RAM first.
