Didn't Air2 and iPhone 6 come out at the same time? Strictly speaking, the Air2 was released a month or so after iPhone 6?
Yes they did.
But the iPad had double the ram and a triple core chip.
The iPhone was dual core and had only 1GB.
Also the iPad was clocked higher.

Ok, fine, but it would be just delaying the inevitable.

But I can see why you would rather use the cpu stuff for others things, and save the display stuff for a later time.

Good luck with this ;)

If the Air 3 has a 4k screen you'll be paying through the nose for it. I don't think the profit margins make sense for Apple to introduce a 4k Air 3 this year. The price will be high and it will be for costs, not profit - that's not Apple's style.

Yeah i remember when ipad 3 came out and it was considerably more expensive than the 2 because it had a retina display.

Maybe my memory is incorrect, but the 16 GB iPad 2 retailed at $500 (price was lowered $100 when iPad 3 was released). The 16 GB iPad 3 also was $500.

I remember my brother buying a $600 - 32 GB iPad 2 a month before the iPad 3 was released.

Sure, if you say so.
My Air 2 smoked my old 6.

I think this sums it up. Air 2 is not double. And the only reason why its approaching such a high difference on multi-core is because it has a third core. On a single core test, your iPhone 6 and Air 2 aren't that much different.

I think Skika may have been being sarcastic. Either way, you are right, adding a retina screen did not raise the price of the iPad. However, that doesn't tell us anything about whether or not Apple can add a 4K screen to the iPad without raising the price. My guess, they'll wait until it can be done without raising the price before doing it, which might be several years down the line.

For me, the animations make it feel laggy. A simple switch to turn off animations has been missing since iOS started…and OS X for that matter.

I need a better screen, and it's the main thing I'm hoping for. The 6 Plus has 401ppi, while the Air only has 264ppi. That is beyond noticeable to me. I want at least 401 in the Air 3.
Beyond noticeable, you're high, the current resolution on the iPad Air 2 looks fantastic. Upping it to 4K wouldn't have much an affect other than putting unnecessary strain on the SOC. I could see maybe the iPad Pro getting 4K in the future however after using a Dell XPS 12, a 12" 2 in 1, with a 4K display, I can honestly say that my Surface Pro 4 looks just as good. What I would like to see more than a resolution boost is a 600Nit+ OLED display. I recently got to play with the new Alienware 13 OLED model and it looks absolutely beath-taking, it's also only 2K. 4K really only makes sense in a 15" or larger display. Even Dell's XPS 13 with the 4K option, which I honestly believe to be one of the best laptops on the market today, is just a complete waste of money, 2K still looks fantastic on it.

The biggest problem with going with 4K is iOS itself as apps iOS are resolution independent, something by the way I absolutely hate as every time there is a change in resolutions or the introduction of new model like the iPad Pro, more than half of the apps in the store aren't upgraded until at last 6 to sometimes even 12 months later. Even right, almost 4 months after the introduction of the iPad Pro, more than half of the apps I have installed on mine look like absolute crap because they don't support the resolution yet, they even use a different virtual keyboard which just looks comically big and just aweful (I can't believe Apple thought that this was okay). Even apps from large firms like Google's YouTube app haven't been updated yet.

So yeah, no thank you, 4K just isn't a viable resolution for iOS at this time.

I thought I was imagining. I had a 2011 macbook air on 10.7 and I just upgraded to a 2015 macbook air and it seems so much slower. My iPhone is beyond slow but I don't have $1000+ to upgrade.

Good news: They have iPhones that are cheaper than 1k$.

People make a huge deal out of screen resolution. Sure, a higher resolution would make a bit of a difference, but the screen already has 3 MILLION pixels. That's the population of Mongolia FCOL. All the difference it makes is that text is a bit sharper. It should by no means on the list of priorities.

Canada doesn't do payment plans?
I would rather just wait then do something like that honestly. My computer is great (although in hindsight I wish I got the MacBook and not the air...), my iPad is good enough at what I used it for (but the battery is weak), but in a perfect world I would like a new phone

It's not about being able to see the pixels. Jobs had us all on that one lol.

You can see the difference between a "retina" display and a higher PPI display because it gives a smoother perceived image overall, regardless of whether you can see the pixels or not.

Screen wise, I hope iPad gets a resolution, contrast ratio and refresh rate bump.

Apple shouldn't make a higher resolution because it already has 3 million pixels which is the same as the population of Mongolia?

This is probably the best argument I have heard in my entire life. I myself love my iPad Air because it has 3 million pixels which is the same as the population of Mongolia.

Who cares about sharp text?

Well my point is that it's enough detail for anybody. There's basically nothing that you can do on a higher res screen. My iPad gives me as much content as I need on a screen that big, and the difference in sharpness is barely noticeable.

I'm sorry that you are one step up from Mr. Magoo with your vision, but for those with X-Men hypervision, the current screen resolutions and PPI densities are a pixelated abomination.

;)
