Well I'm not rich and I paid £699 for mine - and it's without a shadow of a doubt the most used gadget I have ever owned. My Macbook is now redundant and as for my netbook that I bought for portability, it's going to eBay - thanks to Bill Gates, even with Windows 7 it takes ages to power up and shut down and spends the first 20 minutes scanning and checking and updating virus strings. Frankly, it's unusable.

So for me, the iPad is indeed a magical and revolutionary device and worth every penny. And my technophobe wife now wants one - she'll fall heir to this one once iPad II makes an appearance.

Rock on!

Isint this the same guy who wanted to marry his iPad? How ironic. Sucks to be a widower!

Nope. I have an iphone, what would I need an ipad for?

I have a bathtub, what would I need a swimming pool for? And now that I think of it, I'm getting rid of my bathtub, as I have a kitchen sink-- it' a container that holds water, too...

:)

Everyone has different needs.

In our house, the iPad gets more everyday use than the iMac, Mac Pro, PC desktops and laptops, MacBook, iPhones, and even the kids iPods. It is the perfect household email/web/game machine. I've been surprised how little I ever need to go to another computer, unless I have something specific I need to do for work on a desktop machine. Flash has been a complete non-issue for me.

Let me clear up some things up for the people that cry about flash. Flash is bad, really bad. That's why html5 is coming out, to replace flash-bad. Now if you don't understand how things work, then ... Don't talk about them.

Flash isn't going away for quite some time and it probably won't vanish off the internet forever.

HTML5 has a LONG ways to go and it's not being made to "replace" Flash.

That being said, it would be nice to have it on the iPad but it's not going to happen anytime soon if ever. I have Flash on my Droid X and it's clear that Flash isn't ready for mobile devices just yet but it's a nice alternative to absolutely nothing in the interim.

well, if apple adds a file system , printing, video out across all apps then the iPad would be more productive for many people.

Right now the iPad is only productive in some niche applications.

The general productivity for the average user is somewhat limited.

For e.g. :
I can't go into iPhoto and sort, rank and put comments on all my photos. I'd love to do that. But all it allows me to do is stare at them.

Pages is nice but it's a pain to use it to mark edits on my GF's book chapters.

The calendar function is lacking as well.

No Keychain access is one of my biggest gripe because I have hundreds of password on my Mac and can't lokk them up on my IPad.

I can't just copy a bunch of files from my work computer to my IPad and work with them even if the Apps would be able to do that. I would have to email them which is a pain with large and confidential documents.

900 dollars? What in the world....?

I hope you are not assuming that most of people have bought 64GB 3G ipad.

I have 16GB ipad wi-fi only and it cost me 400 dollars. It does everything same as your 3G ipad except it is missing GPS + 3G chip. Storage is not an issue for me as long as I can manage. I have portable wi-fi router and I am all set. This iPad is really awesome. Until iPad with retina display comes out, I am not letting this thing go.

OP, I understand your frustration. The iPad is not for everyone.

In my case, I have an iPad 64GB 3G and love it.

Great for viewing content, but also great for many other things. I no longer need a Netbook as the iPad does what I need -- anywhere.

Others will have different experiences of that I am sure. But for me, it's a complete win. With the OS update on the horizon, it will only get better. :)

Everyone has to make there own value analysis. For me, I was unsure how I would use the Ipad and therefore went with the 16g WiFi. It would be nice to have more space and 3g, but the comparatively low price made the decision easy, and I am very happy with the decision.

I use the Ipad constantly, more so than any of my home computers (which I still need and use). I won't recount all the "media consumption" uses because others have done that. However, I use mine for frequently for business meetings. I have basically banned paper from my meetings. Any document I need to read I drop into a dropbox folder. I can read, revise, or mock up (even pdfs) at the meeting without shuffling papers. Same goes for taking notes. I can't tell you how often I've returned with unreadable, partially destroyed, or just plain lost notes. No more with the Ipad. Yes, technically I could do this with my laptop, but I found doing so too cumbersome (and impossible if my computer was being used to present) and I never rarely did it. If you go to a lot of meetings, particularly on the road, the Ipad will be the easiest $500 you ever spent.

I love mine and it gets at least 4 or 5 hours of use every single day. Sometimes I use it 8 hours! My iPhone, on the other hand, rarely does anything but play music for me at work--it's been relegated to an iPod these days.

The iPad has nearly replaced my laptop too. I might fire that thing up once/week or so. It's getting plenty of rest.

Sounds to me like you just can't afford it, since you keep mentioning how much it costs. If it were $300 would you have kept it? If the answer is yes, you can't afford it.

Exactly. That's Apple's closed-system form factor architecture for you. You are limited by functionality according to what THEY dictate you can do.

OPINION TERRITORY.....

Next time, try prefacing your remarks with the phrase: "In my opinion....". Works better and doesn't lessen your credibility. As many have mentioned more than once. The iPad is not for everyone but for some it exceeds their expectations.

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad and my iPad gets used way more than the iPhone 4, for me, even with the pretty retina display, no way is looking on that tiny screen better than the iPad. Get a clue guys, bashers are those who can't afford one, no one I know if money wasn't the factor, would say they wouldn't like an iPad sitting on the coffee table at home. It's all about the price of the device, guy took his back cause why, he didn't think it was worth a grand. If that grand wasn't needed then I'm sure he would have kept the iPad. Same with decantdave or whatever, guy bashes cause he cant afford one, if one was given to him, I'm sure he would praise it.

Sorry to hear that. Mine, practically is paying itself, as I also use it to provide network support and do business while on the road.

I still wish it did more, as it would if I jailbreak it, but I would rather wait for Apple safely add more functionality.

I bought the 64mb WiFi model.

Holy computer literacy. That sure is a ton of storage you got there! What is that version? Just the Calculator app? What does one even do with 64mb in 2010? Hmm...

People, stop bashing this guy for returning his iPad. So he didn't want it. You same people tell others to share their ridiculous stories that no one truly wants to read! I thought this was an informed logical post that explains why this user has joined and left the iPad world. Now, people thinking the same thing can refer to this thread, get a few facts, and leave more informed.

for almost 2 weeks but man, guys... As much as I LOVE the iPhone and Apple and their products, I couldn't do it. I couldn't justify having a $900 toy, and when I say toy PLEASE do not take it as an insult, because toys are awesome and it just means a piece of technology that is meant for entertainment/media consumption/fun, and that's all the iPad is to me. A $1,000 laptop to me, is an investment. A tool. A daily facet of your day to day life. A $900 iPad (64GB 3G) was not that, and the price did not justify the value. IMHO.

Productivity apps like Pages, or note taking apps, or PDF viewers or file streaming apps, didn't seem as easy, accessible and practical as those resources found on a laptop.

This is just MY experience, and I just wanted to share, maybe see who else did the same with theirs.

So you post that you want to marry the iPad, then post about how to send it back, then post you sent it back.

OK, we get it you don't want one. I personally think your arguments are silly. A $1000 laptop is an investment, but a $829 iPad isn't? Even though the same iPad can be used as a mobile device anyway and travels much better than the laptop?

To each their own, but I really wonder why you keep posting here. Frankly I think most who have an iPad really don't care about your arguments. You certainly aren't going to make anyone who likes their iPad change.
