Initially I was head over heels for the specs on the new iPad pro m1; however, after using it, I decided to return it:

1. It's too large to use casually or comfortably on a couch or chair. Your wrist tires. You essentially have to turn it into a laptop with some sort of accessory. The only reason I went for 12.9" was because of the new screen---I "had" to go with 12.9" it was the only way to get the best display. My 2018 11" pro is the perfect size, it seems.

2. The operating system is highly limited and practically the same as iOS. So for most tasks I ended reaching for my phone before the iPad. What a disappointment that the operating system, even in 2021, is still juvenile.

3. I already have an M1 Air which is worlds ahead of this iPad due to MacOS. It was also cheaper than the iPad Pro, a more primitive and limited device. Also, the M1 air gets better battery life.

4. The return on investment was terrible. I paid a ton for this device and it was essentially a big phone.

So it sounds like you just prefer to do a lot of things on your phone, even though you have a 11 inch Pro.

It has gotten into a weird in-between spot where it is in the price range with very capable devices but the PRO work that can be done is limited.

You never needed an iPad Pro in the first place let alone the most expensive model. Why on earth did you think you needed a 2TB 12.9” model?
The display drew me in. The 2TB was for my icloud drive and movie library. Wifi on airlines and road trips is never reliable.

The 11" has been repurposed for my children. 64gb is not enough space for me and they constantly want to use it.

At the end of the day, I feel bad for people who either have a 12.9” and love theirs, or are interested in the 12.9” and could’ve really enjoyed it but because of posts like this, are now skewed away.

I, for one, love my 12.9” and always reach for my iPad in which an iPhone can do the same. The added bonus is that I can do real work on my 12.9” that my iPhone struggles.

I am making this post to express and share my concerns in hopes that others can make the best possible decision and so that apple can perhaps make changes that benefits consumers.

I have an 11" but my kids used it and loaded it with games. I also assumed the 12.9" would perhaps enable better productivity.

You could’ve stopped at number one. If it’s too large for you then why bother. Making the rest of your points just makes anyone wonder why you bought it in first place since you already knew that.

To be honest I think most peeps who have been considering or on the fence about making the plunge from a MacBook to an iPP as their main device had their decisions made for them at WWDC this year.

WWDC was the make or break for the iPP for a lot of users, and I think considering the power of the current gen, if Apple were to utilise it they would have done it this year, and it’s now safe to say the iPP will be a large iPhone for many years to come unfortunately.

I think what annoys the fans of the device the most is the fact it COULD be an absolutely amazing device but Apple chooses to restrict it time and time again, and people have just given it a last straw now.

I don't think I'd benefit from clickbait. I am making this post to express and share my concerns in hopes that others can make the best possible decision and so that apple can perhaps make changes that benefits consumers.

I appreciate the post. I am on the fence but I’d use it more for work, notes, research using the bigger split screen. I like my 11 for many many task but it’s harder to do research while writing down notes. But I can’t pull the trigger yet since my needs can be done on a 2018 12.9 will suffice. So who know lol.

None of this make sense since you already had 11” iPad and you should’ve known going in.

Yeah I think pre WWDC the M1 was a no brainier, now… not so much…

2018 - 2020 (Better rear camera and better chip)

2020 - 2021 (Better screen (on 12.9), better front camera and better chip)

Not that much between 2018 2020 and 2021 models in all honesty

My kids have filled up it's 64gb drive with games and have turned it essentially into theirs. Plus I'd assume you'd get a better interface and multitasking capacity with the larger display. I was wrong.
