A. Create 3 Versions of the next gen iPhone. One with a Horizontal Sliding Keyboard, one with a Vertical sliding keyboard, one with just the touchscreen.

Never happening.

1. OLED screen
2. multitasking
3. 64gb storage
4. LED flash and image stabilization for camera
5. better quality material/construction for the back housing

Pretty much except I doubt OLED screen will be coming.

In other words, make the iPhone just like any other 'phone in the markertplace. NEVER!

Thank you.

I was talking about their innovation. Not their sales. They have their marketing to thank for that. I am astonished by how many people believe all the stuff in their ads.

Jeez. Before iPhone, all phone comes with thick manuals because none are designed for the actual user.

The hardware can be another evolutionary step as all the main competitors are using nothing radically quicker at the moment, so i'd expect a modest bump in CPU/GPU speed, maybe 64Gb (depending if the fabs are making them) and maybe a slightly better camera (but remember mpix don't a better camera make) but i think the UI is very much in need of an overhaul now after 3 years

Its pretty and slick and generally in-app operations are fine still but having page after page of icons is really not good enough anymore and i think now they've seen the adoption of the appstore to this extent they will do something special for V4.0 - maybe something as simple as categories or folders working like the new stacks in SL ... click and drill into sub-folders and 2 finger swipe to come up a level

I'm astonished you believe the stuff you say. If you think the iPhone has amazing sales because they have a good marketing campaign, you are seriously misguided.

They are slipping. The 3Gs was a let down by far. It brought a few features, but majority of which only required a software upgrade to do anyway.

Really?? You're that guy?

So a software update could bring double the storage, an autofocus camera, double the processor speed, tripple the usable RAM, digital compass?

Maybe they should have slapped a new back on it so you'd consider it a worthwhile upgrade.

but I think that they've positioned themselves to finish second, much like in the computer market.

So when does this race end? When is the "finish"?

Apple is so far ahead right now that it isn't funny. So how have they positioned themselves to finish second? Quite a ridiculous statement from you.

Oh I fully realize that there will never be a physical keyboard on an iPhone, because of Apple's war on buttons. I was just trying think of what would quell people's gripes with the iPhone, and I know that some people would want that.

That will never happen. People will always find something to complain about.

I'm skipping the 3GS because my 3G is perfect and works just fine - no need to replace it. I will need a replacement by the time the new iphone comes out.

Only thing is.. I won't buy it unless It can be jailbroken :)

So the only thing I want is that. Otherwise I will get a 3GS I guess. I only use a couple of stuff from the jailbroken scene but it's absolutely necessary:

- BiteSMS for 5ct / sms (operator charges 15+ cents)
- SBSettings
- Status notifier

If Apple allowed this 3 apps in the iPhone, I would never need to jailbreak again.

I think what made the iPhone and Apple a success is that Apple DOESN'T follow the trends that other companies are doing. Apple does it their own way. They're not going to make a flip out keyboard because other people have gotten used to them on other phones. Other companies will STOP using keyboards because people like the virtual keyboard on the iPhone.

Other companies follow Apple
Apple doesn't follow other companies

Here is one of those times Apple really needs to take some cues from Microsoft and I am not talking about Window Mobile here.
I am talking about what Microsoft did software wise from the Xbox to the 360. Microsoft look pass the pirating reasons on why people were modding the Xbox and saw a entire new world of opportunity and jumped on it. They saw a ton of people were modding the Xbox not to play pirated games but instead to turn the Xbox in to a media center.
The modded Xboxes could
1. Stream movies off of a computer on the network in the common formates like Xvid, and Dvix (both the 360 can do)
2. Stream music off of a host computer
3. The Dash board was a feature floating around in the Modded Xboxes
4. To play arcade like games.
I had multiple friends who told me if I got an Xbox I should modded it for no other reason than the list above (same list of friends did not pirate games. I am not getting into the pirating debate on why people did it)

Low and behold Microsoft added all those features into the 360. It killed off a lot of motivation to want to mod the 360 for reasons other than pirating games.

Apple could take cue and look to the JB comminty for ideas to add to iPhones OS.

List that really needs to be added.

1. True Multitasking- It is truly pathic that the iPhone is the only Smart phone out there that can not multitask. Multiple Dumb phones have no problem multitasking.
2. Putting basic info on the lock screen like new messages, SMS, Voice mail miss call ect. I was shock to learn that the iPhone does not do this.
3. Customizable themes would be nice but apple stick up its rear I doute we will ever see that.

Apple should use the new dual core ARM processor in their next iPhone. More power efficient while also delivering a significant upgrade in processing.

The iPhone needs a bigger, better resolution screen. They can't have the same screen 4 years in a row. Other hardware upgrades include faster processor, better battery, radio, better camera, and then making the phone thinner. I was impressed with OS 3.0, so I don't think they need to significantly improve the software.

I like the cut of your jib! of course, they should be conservative as to what they add. A lot of JB-apps really just add different ways of doing the same simple task, but if Apple took the best of the best tweaks and apps, 4.0 could be better for it.

The iPhone 3G S brought some hardware revisions but for the next iPhone they need to overhaul the software portion of the phone. Revised OS with multi-tasking and improved menu layouts and UI functions. An expose type introduction would be nice.

Also, some of the aesthetics of the phone could be made slimmer and more polished but I doubt the processor and stuff will change that much. If they keep changing the specs every year, how will developers catch up to release games that take full advantage of the newest offering if there are too many groups with different processors? They will keep offering the apps and games for the oldest hardware and we will never see fully optimized games. I really hope they keep the specs similar in RAM/GPU/CPU so we can see some really amazing games after more people get the 3G S and stuff.
