When you go to System Preferences -> Networking -> (click on the connection you're using) -> TCP/IP, are you using DHCP, and what is written in the DNS servers and Search domains boxes?

.

Now it's starting to sound like malware because sometimes I can't get to google, but I can on my PC.

I may take my powerbook to work tomorrow and use our DSL to see what happens.

Have you tried deleting everything from the DNS box and seeing what happens? There is something fugazi about using those servers as name servers.... They definitely are not the addresses of Comcast's name servers. And since you are using DHCP, your router should take care of getting name server from Comcast, and passing nameservice activity through with your computer. You shouldn't have to have those DNS entries at all.

EDIT: And while it's technically possible you have malware, we all seriously, seriously doubt it, because no one else has malware on OS X, and it's hard to believe you're the first and it is causing this issue. Please let us know what happens if you remove the DNS entries from your networking setup.

Well, originally, there was nothing in the DNS box, and that DNS information is the same that I have set up on my PC. So... hmm.

4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 are Verizon nameswervers. As it happens I have the same two hardcoded in this Mac's network prefs and am not seeing the same problem.
