I too am waiting for a revision and Leopard to get my 24", which is why I am currently using a Mini. I am hoping to see a mid-range tower so I can get that along with a 23" Apple display, or short of that would love to see the 24" iMac in Black. I don't think we will see any sort of redesign to the case soon, but you never know.

I see a mac in my future.....but the new PC has more toys and love the touch screeen

Why would you buy an iMac then sell it within a month?

A new iMac in the next few weeks? An updated one at WWDC? ... WWDC is for professionals, Mac Pros and such. That's what that will be focused on. Plus the latest iMac only came out in September, so you might not see another until then or August once the Santa Rosas come out.

Yes, WWDC is for developers; but wasn't MacWorld supposed to be about Macs? We got the iPhone at MacWorld, and now we should get iMac AND Mac Pros (and MacBook Pros if I had my way) just for the fact that Apple did nothing to pump up the Mac line.

The latest iMac revision came out in September, true; but since when do we have to wait eleven months to a year for an update!?? That is madness in the technology world. If Apple wants to keep their robust image, then they need to be on the cutting edge of technology. I do not want to by last years technology. If they updated once a year, then you would be buying old technology (relative to the industry), which will be a year and a half old by the time the next update rolls around! That is madness.:apple:

As I said, you can get touchscreens for Macs. Even has the software built right in. Can't remember where I saw one, but I Googled, and got a couple of links. Also, all Macs come with voice activation software. Leopard is even better. My friends are amazed when I talk to my Mac and it does what I tell it and/or talks back. Was watching a blind person use OS X for the first time when Tiger came out and she didn't have any help, it was awesome watching her work. She'd never used a Mac before.

I had an HP tablet at work with touchscreens and it sucked, but that was just my experience.

I am disabled, not lazy :)

That wasn't pointed at you, it was at the people too lazy to get up and get a beer, so they had to invent a machine to get one for them. ;)

As I said above, Macs are usually perfect for the disabled. Sometimes without even having to buy extras. I have a disabled friend who I convinced to buy a Mac who's never been happier with a computer. You got some really bad ones, definitely bad luck. At that point, I'm surprised they didn't offer you some sort of compensation for your troubles, like coupons, or discounts, or free stuff. Maybe you'll have better luck next time.

Hiya

I recently sold my 20" Core Duo (not C2D) to my brother in law.

Now this leaves me in a pickle. I was all set 2 weeks ago to buy the 24" model, fully kitted.

However, thanks to macrumors etc, updates ARE due but we dont know for sure when and what.

This has confussed me, I want/need one now....but I am thoughtful of the pending updates?

What I keep telling myself is, the updates, wont be as dramatically improvment over what is on sale now will it?

I mean a 2.33GHz, 2GB, 256MB 7800GT computer will handle anything I throw at it, and will take on Leopard with no problems right? So why wait if I want one now?

Help me, what should I doooooooooooooooooo!

Thanks Guys!

Well, personally, I say buy one now, but buy a refurb - stalk the refurb store till a unit with the upgraded GPU becomes available and snag it. That way you get a great price, so even if a new model comes out soon after you can tell yourself, "well, I got 'yesterdays' product, but I got it for a good discount, so it was still a good deal". :)

Imo, there is no significant updates for the 24" iMac... Well one worth putting off getting a computer you need for the next 2+++ months.

Yeah, you are right. Intel is releasing their stuff in may, but who knows when Apple will adopt the technology. Buy it now, if I were still on my Gateway, I would buy an iMac in a second.

I'm waiting for the updates before I buy...

The anticipation is killing me as well but I'm sure the wait will be worth it. Besides if your able to get on a computer now and post the 'should I wait?" bit then why can't you wait? I mean your already geekin...

My only issue is my freakin Windows keeps crashing and having iexplorer.exe errors and it's driving me nuts. I dont want to take the time to format, reinstall, etc etc. I swear everytime I visit The Apple Store website my PC rejects the page and crashes...

Jelous bastard...

I had the same trouble yesterday. I asked people on this forum and I decided to buy mine the same day. I bought an iMac 20" Intel Core2 Duo. I don't think I'll regret it.

Updates to the iMac won't be coming soon because Apple still has to upgrade the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro. Plus, they have to do iWork '07, iLife '07 and Leopard. So don't wait and just go for it ! The iMac 24" is awesome and you won't regret it if you buy it now. That's what I did yesterday, after months and moths of waiting ! ;)

Go for it ! You'll like your iMac.

PS : I'll get my iMac within the 22nd of March. Because I upgraded some little things and it'll take like two weeks before I can get it shipped to my house.

I'm assuming you have the HP TouchSmart (IQ770?). I've heard good things about the touch screen part, but not so good things about the computer itself. http://trolltouch.com/ and http://www.magictouch.com make some for the Macs, but they're a little expensive. http://www.superwarehouse.com and http://www.tigerdirect.com sell just the monitors, as do others, but it's not as good of a solution. Planar makes some nice ones though.

I don't know if that helps any for when you're ready to buy (new Macs in June probably) but like I said, I have a handicapped friend who wanted me to help her look into this, so I've been doing some research.

Its either a macbook NOW and then wait orget the kitted 24" iMac!
Get a refurb model to save some money. The new MB will have a better video card and faster FSB, same for the 24". If the current models are ok to you, buy it now. Otherwise, be prepared to wait until June.

I just sold my 20" core duo to a friend. Fortunately for me, she is not ready for me to deliver it to her so I can keep using it for awhile. I am definitely waiting for some updates before I buy a replacement.

Just my two cents, I just spent a weekend playing with a friends 24" with the GeForce 7600 with 256MB card. I was speechless, we played Mac and PC games with unbelievable quality. Nearly all games played at native resolution of 1920x1200 and I was shocked at the detail and the speed... that that didn't support running at this resolution (Doom 3 and Prey for example) played with breath taking visuals at 1600x1200

Seriously jaw dropping performance! Just thought I'd share some insight for those that haven't seen a 24" with the highest end graphics card. Can't wait for revisions to come out with updated specs! They are sure to be better machines, but honestly you can't go wrong with the current machines. Simply awesome.

I just wish they would give the option of the 7600gt in the 20"

Because some of us can't even watch our favorite video podcasts (Diggnation, MacBreak, DL.TV) because our systems lack the basic computing power to decode the video.

Edit: I just ordered a 20" iMac!
