Yes... the HD 10 has more RAM, faster processor, and nicer screen 1920 x 1200 (vs 1280 x 800 on the 8)

I have yet to see a car-based analogy that works well with consumer electronics. :)

How so? If I drive a luxury car with 300hp, heated seats, and so on it makes your day to day better than driving a 150hp car with a manual transmission

As far as electronics, a similar comparison would be a $1,500 gaming PC or a $500 basic computer. They can do the same things, though the higher end PC will do it much more efficiently, look better, and also save you many hours of time in the long run.

I bought the 11" iPP for myself, but I'm a heavy user and it's perfect for me. I also bought my husband the new 2018 iPad to replace the Air 2 that he just started using. The air 2 will go to our grandson so it was a good reason to upgrade him. He finally started using an iPad in the last few months.
I think it all depends on your planned usage. The iPP is perfect for me. I love the size especially after going from a mini. I was kind of on the fence at first with the larger size, but now I rarely use the mini. I would sell it, but would get so little for it that I'm just going to keep it as a spare.

We did the same in our house. 2018 iPad for one and 11" Pro for the other, both based on usage/need.

Seriously if you have to ask others if you should buy an iPad then you have not identified a use case strong enough for yourself. Two options from here:

Either come up with a use case where the device makes sense in your life. iPads have been around for almost a decade and it’s pretty well established what they can do and can’t do well.
Or just save the money until you find a product that has a clear purpose and value for you.

For what it’s worth Apple gives you two weeks return period in most countries. Get an iPad and try it out for yourself and decide then.

I don't understand why you would be using the iPad only while the iPhone is charging. Everything the phone can do is so much nicer on the big screen of the iPad.

Check out my thread on the Fire HD 10. Depending upon where you live, you can pick one up during the holiday shopping season for $100. Clearly it isn't anything like the new generation iPad Pros, but the Fire HD 10 can actually do quite a few things that those iPad Pros can't. (some of those things are described in that thread)

It can easily do perform those tablet tasks that you describe.

You don't indicate which Fire tablet you're referring to. Yes, the Fire 7 and 8 can start gasping for air but the HD 10 is quite a different beast.

I have to admit I was wrong about the fire tablets. I have one of the fire 7 kids ones for my toddler and it’s ok for a child. However since they were on sale for Black Friday I decided to get one mainly because I wanted to try the show mode. I already have a 10.5 inch iPad Pro and an iPad mini 4 but decided to get the fire 8 as it can do show mode but the10 I wouldn’t choose to use over my iPad Pro.

So far I’ve been quite happy with the HD 8. I’ve got the play store on there and for the price it’s quite capable. Performance is ok. Better than the 7 and the screen quality is passable

However for a main tablet I’d not choose a fire tablet. I’d go with the iPad Pro or even the budget iPad over the fire HD 10.

I’d keep your MacBook and buy the iPad Pro. It’s a great experience and you can try out using it as your main machine before fully committing. I did this 3 years ago with my MacBook and was able to make the switch to iOS only. It’s been a better experience for me than any Mac was. There’s an adjustment period, but the benefits in the end outweigh any negatives.

so I been looking at the new iPad and so far I do believe it looks great, I keep saying how apple says that this is a laptop replacement but I don't really agree with that but I would love to use an iPad as my main computer. there is software that I need and I do ten to game and can't really game on an iPad. my MacBook is always on due to my work. my questions is? should I even get an iPad the only time I can see myself using it, is when my iPhone is charing and I want to lay down in bed but I can't see giving that much more for the iPad Pro bc it have so much extra stuff that I just don't need. I was thinking about getting a normal iPad for just $329 but the look to it is out of date (I feel) then I was just thinking to get me the amazon fire tablet for $150 and call it a day. I guess my questions is, should I get an iPad Pro or just got get a cheaper tablet?

Right now is the best time to buy an iPad. Buy the 329. Test it for 2 weeks. Return it if you feel you need more power and spend more on a pro. The 329 iPad might fit your needs you never know.

I've owned both the current-gen iPad and the new iPad Pro at different times this year. The current-gen is a very capable tablet – way more capable than the original iPad at $499. There's no serious task it can't accomplish, short of a few of the fancy bells like Animoji. The Pencil and Procreate, things like that, are all right there.

With a price difference of almost $500, the main reason to get the new Pro is to have a machine which will undoubtedly last longer with new operating systems and overall speed; if the iPad is very capable, the iPad Pro is ridiculously capable. (Second is all the nice redesign stuff, but… another $500 for those alone? Probably only if you love that more than just about anything in life.)

And which games? There are plenty of good games on iOS.

well the only game I really play is wow but that's not for iPad

Oh, you're one of those. ^ ^

Maybe someday. (Surprising, actually. Did they ever look at mobile for that phenomenon after its dominant era?)
