I was just about to say the same thing, but a refurbished Mac Mini, and get accustomed to using macs and such, then you can either keep it and work with it, or sell it and buy a higher end computer (macbook pro, or iMac)

This is now my third option!!!

I used to use Windows PC's all the time, its a bit of a culture shock when you first switch over. Give it a couple of weeks max and you discover that things are much simpler using a Mac. Everything seems to be where you think it should be.

One of my first jobs after computer technician school was working as an Apple, Dell, and Compaq tech so it was easy to get any Apple parts. But without the license, it's hard to just have Apple parts shipped to you in 24 hours. I don't know how easy it would be. We all know that getting PC parts is far easier overall.

What you are attempting is more advanced and not as easy as working with your typical PC tower and easily interchangeable parts. It's not impossible, but not easy. Take time to research your project.

Thanks for this - good to hear from someone who has tried

I would go with a Mac Mini 2Ghz/1GB Ram/120GB HD then you can get it for $599.00 new and your looking at about $120.00 to upgrade the hard drive to 500GB and Ram to 4 GB. then you have a great Machine and you can use any USB keyboard and mouse, also any monitor because the Mini comes with the mini-Display port adapter but Apple sells all the others in case you have a VGA monitor.

I was a PC person and a Mac person but I went with the Mini this way I can use any monitor, keyboard and mouse, and it is still somewhat portable so I can take it with me and use someone else's monitor, keyboard, and mouse

Less expensive then an iMac but not better just different.
