I want to like iCloud Drive but you can't even save files to it, seriously Apple?

I always prefer first party app over third parties (Dropbox, Google drive etc). But seriously, today I got two PDFs in an email and I just needed some place to put it, before uploading it to a website.

Well guess what shows up in the share sheet when I press the up arrow? Dropbox, Google drive, Documents, Notability, OneNote etc etc. Everything except iCloud Drive. Seriously why?

I have the iCloud Drive app enabled on my iPad. But I don't even understand how to use it. Can someone shed some light?

I think that you simply can't. You also can't upload things directly to the iCloud Drive app. I find it really awkward. Even if you wanted to, there are not a lot of ways of ACTUALLY using the service...

If you long press on a file in an email, you can save it to iCloud Drive. Look in the second row in the share sheet, not the upper one where all the apps are.

You need a third party app, I use Documents by Readdle, it works quite well.

I was scratching my head on this also. You provide 50GB of space for 99 cents/month and not a native share sheet to copy to iCloud drive? sheesh. iCloud drive is so useless right now compared to other services like Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive etc.

Basically, iCloud drive was designed so that apps can communicate with themselves on other devices. iOS Pages wants to talk to Mac Pages? Great!

Apple making the iCloud icon on the home screen was a mistake. It makes it seem more like Dropbox but without it actually being like Dropbox.

I just use Dropbox.

On IOS the concept is that you can Save and Open documents on iCloud Drive. I don't think moving makes sense in IOS. I use iCloud drive all the time because most aps that work with documents (Pages, Keynote,...) save and open from there

On Mac OS X iCloud Drive works just as if it were a real disk drive, drag and drop, click to open and so on work there. But on IOS you need an app that knows about iCloud.

It's not perfect but I can save a file to it by long pressing on an attachment of an email and it looks like this:

iCD isn't that bad actually. If you want to download a file from Safari, you have to safe it in some sort of filemanager first. I use Transmit for iOS for that.

Wow, did you find that by chance? I didn't even know that was possible and was still going to my Mac to download PDFs from emails to iCloud Drive. Now I can't see myself going to the Mac much at all! Thanks !!

Unfortunately, it's not universally available throughout the system. So, for example, I can't save attachments from Inbox to ICD.

I'm not ok with it. This is one of the major drawbacks with iOS and it limits my usage. Its not a problem on my phone, since I don't need that functionality but I use a Surface Pro 3 tablet now, because of the limitations of iOS.

iCloud Drive works just fine on my iDevices: just press and hold on the attachment and you can save it in the cloud. It works in the inbox of Mail also.

I'll excuse you because English is probably not your first language, but note my comment above about Inbox. Also, and more importantly,people saying they can't do it is not "spreading misinformation". Perhaps some are incorrect, but that's a somewhat less inflammatory statement. In my case, I am absolutely positive that I cannot use this feature from the Apple mail inbox if I am accessing my Exchange email account. I don't know if this is a bug or a restriction placed on the Exchange account by its administrator.

Only using Gmail app it doesn't work, so blame Google for that.
So I stand my position: this thread is full of misinformation.

Because I like Inbox. It does what I want it to do for me.

There sure seems to be a lot of "if you don't do it my way, you're wrong" in this thread.

I think you are misreading a bit. If Inbox doesn't do saving to iCloud then the problem isn't iCloud or Apple's, it is that Inbox wasn't written properly to do it. That's on Google.

If you are not able to save an attachment I'm sorry about you ... But don't blame the operative system for something user or a third party developer (Google) can't do properly.

I'm using an Exchange account and the native mail app., and I can save attachments to iCloud drive. If I just tap and hold, it pops right up. I haven't tried any other mail apps, but it sure seems to work fine on the native app.
