I've got the same 24" imac an iphone which will be replaced with the 3G next week. I have a 12" pb that basically broke on me a month or so ago and my next purchase will be a MBA hopefully a few weeks after the iphone:D

Well, may I join this large boat in which we all seem to be?
Yes, I'm lusting after an Air.

This isn't "justifying" the purchase, as such, but I'm persuading myself the Air's good because I tested a 1.6 GHz, 80GB's capabilities in store today. I opened like a million apps (firefox x10 tabs, safari x5 tabs, 3 simultaneous youtube videos, itunes playing a movie, garage band, iphoto, finder) and then on top I opened Google Earth, which is about as graphically taxing as any app I'll ever use (yes, not very taxing). I set everything to high, and zoomed in on a mountain range. I looked around, scrolled a bit, and it was going at about 15-20 fps. With ALL that background stuff.
Oh, and it goes without saying that Google Earth runs as smooth as silk if run alone.

So it really is capable. And that was my main issue. Apart from the 80GB and no disk drive!

It's a 2GB 1.6 dual core 2 computer with a slowish hard drive.

It a powerful machine when it's not accessing the hard drive.
Once apps are loaded it's a very powerful sub-notebook.

Apple could have put in a much more sensible lower voltage , less powerful chip, but they didn't, thankfully. : )

I had really convinced myself that I wanted to get an MBA. I don't know that I have the need for it but I think it is a great light notebook. I already have a 2.8Ghz 24" iMac for a desktop as well as an iPhone. I really like the idea of having the Air for browsing in front of the TV (yes, a bit lazy with the iMac a room away), and for travel which I don't do much of. Really I guess I don't need one. Added to which if I replace my iPhone with a 3G model in July, that will afford me faster browsing, albeit on a smaller screen.

Really, what are my reasons to get an Air. Other than the cool Apple lust factor, something else to buy cases and such for, and a notebook that won't see too much use.

Help me justify it.

The reason I chose a MBA over a MB: when its dark the keys light up, cool. its light as hell. thats it.

Thats a good one :)

like others said, $50 on new battery for PB or $1800 on new MBA, hmm decisions :)

its your decision, but I would say spend the $50 and enjoy having $1750 for remodeling

Seconded.

In essence, I third the "if you don't really need it, don't buy it" notion. However saying that would make me a hypocrite, as I quite often buy things I don't truly "need". Example: more new clothes, or more expensive food. We do it all the time. If I was majorly drooling over it, I'd get it, end of story. That's the nice thing about being able to afford things. The justification for your buy will be the gorgeous computer in itsself, and maybe the envious looks you'll be getting from people when you take it out. =D

If you don't really need it, don't get it. You'll just waste money and end up not using an expensive laptop.
