Anyways, until the rumored Windows Phone 8 Nokia SuperPhone to end all Superphones comes out we wont' know if Windows Phone has any future. WP7 on current hardware is just not going to cut it for today's demanding consumer.

Lol. Isn't that what people said about the iPhone? Look how long it took Apple to put in the super-duper hardware they use. Windows Phone definitely has a future, MS has the money to keep the project going as long as it takes. The only question is how long it will take people to start picking it up.

He was later given a laptop & phone.

FWIW if you lose you're offered a trade-in for a free, no-contract wp7 phone of your choice. The phones are nice, and this week a lot of people have been trading in their stuff for it. Granted, I wouldn't expect anyone in the right mind to trade an iphone 4s in, but there are plenty of phones where that's a GREAT IDEA .

I did this earlier today.

I walked around a bit beforehand, and saw some of the challenges they were doing. They had plenty of different challenges. I loaded my phone up (Windows Mobile 6.0 Moto Q) with movie times of the mall I was in, the weather in different cities, etc.

They took my phone beforehand, cleared the cache, closed all apps, etc, so I didn't have anything open to 'cheat' with.

They then showed me their phone, and said it didn't have anything on the homescreen.

The challenge was then to go see the closest restaurants. He just went into the Social tile, and there was the nearest restaurants - while my phone was still loading the browser (lol). Oh well, I was prepared to lose - I used that phone on purpose, and got a WP7 out of it.

It's sad that Microsoft has to resort to such gimmickry to gin up interest in their burning Windows Phone platform. Now I hear AT&T is going "all out" in the Lumia 900 launch. The question is - will anybody show up?

Gimmickry? It's called promoting the strengths of the product. You don't like them, that's cool, but it's still a pretty decent promotion. To deny that is crazy.
