Hello -

I've been watching the posts for a while.
Just picked up my i5 and it seems to be fine (week 53). I've only had it on for about 15 minutes, if anything should change, I will post. No yellow that I could see and I did try the test on the forum. Any questions, I'll try my best to answer.

Run it through this checklist, and report results :):

1)Screen - Stuck/Dead pixels
2)Screen - Flickering screen, with brief blackouts
3)Screen - Yellow smudge at the bottom/elsewhere
4)Screen - LED backlight bleeding through in corners when screen is dark/black
5)Screen - High pitch whine from screen at max brightness after 30 minutes; also after turning down brightness by 30%
6)Screen - Dust or fingerprints trapped behind the monitor glass
7)iSight - Dead pixels
8)iMac as external monitor function not working
9)Noisy HDD - clicking or whirring, rumbling and whining
10)Constantly running fans at high volume
11)Intermittent hiss from external speakers hooked up
12)Frequent beachballs, despite not many programs running
13)Slow boot up
14)Random self generated restarts while using Firefox
15)Airport problems
16)Bad USB ports

Congrats! But something confuses me: week 53? I thought there are only 52 weeks in a year

Because this is exactly what someone wants to do when they get a new computer, search every nook and cranny for some fault.

A little uncalled for, you've just spoiled that iMac for him. Because now you're going to make him paranoid about faults.

BTW after my exhaustive testing, mine only suffered from 13, which was fixed by changing the boot disk from network (I am not running OS X server on any of my Macs), to the Macintosh HD.

The only one I haven't tested is 8, as I am waiting for my Dr Botts HDMI - MDP adaptor.
 
I'll look into the list and report back. Right now I'm enjoying it until I find something not to enjoy. I'm keeping it running to see if anything out of the ordinary happens with the screen. I just looked at the iSight and it's fine, external speakers sound great.

I've read enough posts so that I'll keep an eye on it... I'll do everything but make it turns its head and cough :eek:

Don't bother with the list. Enjoy your iMac, and don't worry about the list unless something goes wrong.

The only thing I'd check is to try to spot any stuck pixels although you would probably have noticed that by now. Other than that, if everything else appears to be ok then leave it at that safe in the knowledge that you have Applecare ready for at least a year. :)

14)Random self generated restarts while using Firefox ------ don't use

All seems to be well - I let it sit for about an hour with an external monitor hooked up, came back to see if there's any flickering (brightness was on high)... Nothing so far (knock on wood).
 
Here's something you may want to do, it's pretty important and I highly recommend it: Clear everything off your desktop, choose a nice background and then sit back in your chair and just admire your purchase. These 27" iMacs are a true work of art, admire it! Maybe buy an HD film or something to watch on it. That screen is pretty much the best screen you can get right now short of the $4k+ professional high end displays. The screen will be what you will admire for the longest. My Mac Pro and 30" ACD are now over three years old - nearly 3.5. I still regularly sit back and just admire the screen though. The computer itself has recently been replaced because it was getting too slow. The screen on the other hand... two thousand five hundred and sixty pixels wide and still as breathtaking as ever.
 
Rick, It's nice to hear some good news. Enjoy your new iMac. I'm sure you know just what to keep an ear & an eye out to look for. These are Incredible iMacs!

This is really sad. Your not launching a space shuttle. Its a bloody personal computer. RELAX!
 
Like I've said, I've been watching the posts and was a little nervous about getting my iMac. I'm happy with the purchase and the screen is amazing. I thought my 24" was nice, but the 27" is bee-u--tiful.

I didn't mind checking out the things that people listed as possible issues, I would do the same with any product that I wanted and then heard various things about.

I've got it - I'm happy & Elvis has left the building...

Thank you RickT67 for going through the checklist - you got a great machine!

And don't listen to the naysayers who are afraid to look at their computers that they paid $2000+++ for.

Fact is, by alerting people to the issues, we're doing them a favor - this way, if there is a problem, they can go to Apple immediately for an exchange or repair. Everybody benefits. Apple benefits, because they get a clearer picture of what the problems are and how severe and prevalent, and they can take measures - which in turn helps us, the users and customers. And you also avoid unpleasant surprises down the road - imagine you are doing mission critical work, and suddenly some fault becomes apparent and your work is ruined or inconvenienced and perhaps you are already out of the 14 day return period... what a headache and heartache, and what a nasty shock to the system!

So, HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY. Not hiding flaws from customers, hoping they won't notice and selling it so it becomes somebody else's problem. That's really mean and low. Remember: honesty is the best policy.

And you sir, have a beautiful machine that passed all the tests! You can rest easy, and feel confident - though vigilance is always advised in case problems develop later... but at least you know what to look for!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I'm very excited for you! I'm ordering soon myself!
