hmm?

if the computer doesn't boot from your hard drive, then where does it boot from out the box??

It still doesn't come with a built in computer, though...

That's not a better screen. The backlight in the 27" iMac is superior. By better screens I meant the RGB LED backlit professional displays such as the Samsung XL30. I've got a 30" ACD but the 27" iMac has a newer IPS panel and a better LED backlight - it may have slightly lower resolution and three less inches but it also has a higher DPI. To get an all round better display apart from DPI, you have to spend about $4000 on a 30" RGB LED backlit display. The display is so good in the 27" iMac that some people have actually bought iMacs instead of 30" ACDs to use only as displays.

Is there any downsides to doing this?

No.

It will speed things up with no downside.
Select the HD icon that Mike MacIntosh referred to earlier with a click of your mouse (even if it already appears to be highlighted) and click restart.
Done. Simple.

boot times

Just a question, didnt want to make a new thread about boot times ,

When i bought my i5. Boot time was 1 minute.
I re installed the os again. Got down to 27 seconds.
Lately its booting at 1 minute again. I have my primary disk as boot disk.
I have a firewire disk connected and a usb 3g dongle.

I was loving the 30 second boot times, ...can any body help me here.

Thanks

yes but yellow is optional with the Dell, comes as standard with the iMac.

Run it through this checklist, and report results :):
...

I hate to feed your OCD ;), but I did want to comment on 13 (slow bootup):
My first iMac (27" i7 -- am waiting for #2) had slow bootup. Specifically, about 45 sec before the Apple logo appeared. After that it was fast.
Resetting the PRAM fixed it.

Oh, what the heck, I'll go throught the list for iMac #1:

1) 1 dead pixel
2) Yes, until updates were applied. Then no (but I only had the machine for 2 days)
3) Yes - it was mild though.
4) Sort-of. The bleeding at the corners existed, but only when viewing from certain angles. e.g., if I put my head pretty close to the screen (1-2 ft). I'm not sure if that really counts.
5) no
6) no
7) 6 dead pixels
8) did not try.
9) not really. There was audible hard drive grumbling, but I didn't think it was excessive and would not have found it annoying.
10) no
11) did not try
12) no
13) yes -- fixed with PRAM reset
14) did not try
15)
16) no, though I only tried one of them

Just saw this after posting. Try resetting the PRAM. Sorry, I forget the exact key combo -- google it. One thing I do recall is that when you press the keys is important. Press and hold right after powering the iMac on (after a full shutdown). Wait until you hear the startup chime twice before letting the keys up.
