I'm waiting for my 800mhz iBook G3 to get here (expected Monday) and I was wondering how many MR'rs still have an iBook G3 in their setup, if you do could you post a pic of it and your machine's specs.

I think the iBook G3 is a great little machine, and very well designed. I'll be sure to post mine once it arrives :D.

Haha, I just went through my FTP looking for pictures and I found a ton from when I sold my iBook G3 500Mhz on here.

Specs:

12" iBook G3 500Mhz
384MB RAM
10GB HD
CD-ROM
Airport
And I was running 10.3.9 on it at the time.

Pics: http://itasor.com/ibook

Darn, now that I look at it (I have a 1.33Ghz 12" iB now) the thing looks so "silver" instead of white. I personally thing it looks like crap. :)

Ahh, I love iBooks.

I love this picture: http://www.itasor.com/ibook/P5070012.JPG :).

Here's my 500mhz that died (was a 500mhz, 128mb, 10gb, DVD).

Sod off
My dad uses this iBook setup everyday for email, web browsing, banking, and other similar things:

Blue Clamshell Rev A
300 MHz G3
160MB RAM
3GB Hard Disk
OS X 10.3.9

For such simple tasks, the machine actually runs OS X acceptably with a paltry 160MB RAM. The small hard drive is a bottleneck though.

I'll be using (part time at least) a 600Mhz/384/Combo/10GB/upgraded video card in a week or so. :D

I wish they'd go back to the metallic interior. I'd rather have shiny palm rests than yellow ones.

And damn that transparent case looked awesome compared to the opaque ones of today. I wonder with the new iMac and iPod sporting the transparent cases again that the iBook will be using cooler materials with the Intel switch. I hope so, when I replace this one in three or so years time I want an iBook that isn't going to yellow in the Aussie sun as this one has.

Perfect for IM, email, and word processing...everything I need in college.

I'll get some pics when I get home.

What? What? What?

I'm still rocking a 14in 700Mhz/384/Combo/30GB iBook, on its 3rd logic board and 2nd 'back light thingy'.

Can't wait for Intel iBooks!

G3 800 still going strong with Tiger

*snip*

How much RAM do you have, because I was wondering is 384mb (later to be upgraded to 640, which I know will) enough to handle Tiger smoothly?

I use a 700mhz iBook as my main (and only) machine. It has 640mb Ram and a DVD drive which I put in myself. It originally had a Radeon 7500 w/ 16mb vram, but it was upgraded to 32mb when my logic board was replaced. It runs nicely, but it can be a little slow now and then.

This pic is from over a year ago, the day I got my new G5. I use my iBook G3 900/640MB just about everyday. It gets me through the day at work and school. One day I will get a powerbook, but i have had zero problems with my iBook since I bought it new, umm, several years ago.

Maybe I will take some updated photos once I get everything organized again.

I bought a G3/900 MHz iBook from CompUSA auctions for $505 about 2 years ago. Didn't need it but couldn't pass up that deal. I use it instead of the 76 lb. Toshiba laptop my job gave me. Now that I'm opening an office on Denver, I expect to use it much more since I will now travel at least once a month. While not the fastest, it gets the job done (running Tiger with 640 MB).

Here's my G3 next to her big sister...

All in all, the iBook's a pretty good machine – perfect for browsing the web and a bit of light work if I fancy sitting on the settee rather than at my desk. It's a 500MHz G3 with 384MB of RAM and a 15GB hard drive – and it runs Panther fine.

I used to have a Clamshell, but I didn't like it so I sold it, but they're great machines too!

Hehe, forgot, I have one of those too! I immediately thought of G3 iBook as the white ones like my 500mhz, but I have a blueberry clamshell as well.

Specs are:

300Mhz iBook G3 [blueberry]
544MB RAM (32+512)
3GB HD
New Battery
Panther 10.3.9
CD-ROM

I like the clamshell because it comes apart easy and I can work on it myself and such.

Clamshells are probably the second most poory designed Apple product... right below the Flower Power iMac G3s.

Man, that iBook has had a trip, and all because skoker broke the trackpad when opening it up :p.

Yeah, he lost a few screws as well. ;)

Anyway, it's all fixed now. Red-tint screen fixed with replacement screen (nice and bright now too!), new trackpad/speaker part of the case, and I replaced the CD drive so it stays closed. I'm working on the HD now.

I seriously don't understand how you can break that little trackpad cable when you open it up, lol. You would have to practically rip the whole thing apart like an ape or something. :p :p :p
