How would approval work though, you can't expect apple to read your book to make sure there isn't offensive content.

Imagine someone uploads a childrens book that advocates drugs, murder, genocide or worse. Deleting it after complaints is not the way to go. Not worth the risk IMO.

They don't approve music when you submit it, why should they try to censor books? They should just mark anything not verified as "adults only". Let people parent their own kids and stop worrying about for them.

This is a great idea, and I've got some friends in the SF community who might be up for it. God knows there isn't much else happening in the field these days.

I'll get right on this.

Let me know how it goes, I want certain royalties since it's my idea. :)

Seriously, get started on it.

I assume if apple does not support self-publishing, it will be an opportunity for a publisher to be created or step up to assist those authors who want to self publish.

Sure they will likely take a cut of the proceeds, but it would likely be much less than that of a real publisher.

In fact this could even be grounds for the start of an author cooperative where you group together and create a unified group for dealing with Apple.

I see no reason why Apple would not want to allow people to self-publish though.

I think it's because it will kill the Publishing Company:eek:

Pretty sure most people have gotten the answer to the question of the thread, but just in case, there is an eBook service publisher called Smashwords that allows you to publish on the iBookstore for free (just follow the instructions in the following link).

Only problem is, I have so far been able to add all of the necessary information (year/ISBN/Author/Full title) to my iBooks ebook in addition to the correct outlined format of my ebook, with few pictures here and there, but have had no luck adding in video or audio since you need to save your file as a .doc, as far as I believe. Maybe we can do that in the future.
