After seeing the books were in the App Store (thought they would be combined with the audiobooks section), I checked what was available. Slim pickings on the selection as :apple: still has to get agreements with the publishers. One of the major reasons for me to get an iPad was for the books so I'll just have to wait it out whilst the selection improves.

Did fire up the Kindle app and it works well.

Are you sure you're not confusing the stand-alone book apps with what is available in the iBookstore? Were you searching from iTunes or on the iPad using the iBooks app?

magpie…have you set a "bookmark" in a book yet, and if so, can you attach a note to that bookmark?

You're right. I was looking in the wrong place. Was assuming that you can see the iBookstore books in iTunes and that isn't the case? Once I went into the iBooks app I saw the iBookstore and the larger selection I was expecting. Thanks for clearing that up.

I haven't bought a book yet, but I'm going to snag some of the free ones. Perhaps Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

I worked on the internet promo video for that book. Have you seen it, yet?

Lots and lots of good free books... Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)... Well those would be my first choices anyway. :D

The iBooks app automatically picks up where you left off. You can also highlight text in yellow, green, blue, pink, or purple, but I don't see anywhere to leave a comment. I'll keep looking. A running list of your highlighted text is kept near the table of contents. You can adjust the screen brightness within the app, text size, and font. A text search function is also within the app.

So then you can only browse and buy books within the iBooks App and not within the iTunes store itself, correct?

I'm certain that there will be more title-specific book apps for download just like you can find for the iPhone. But the Apple iBook store is where you'll find the bulk of them.

It is up and it looks great. I haven't purchased anything yet. No apps or books. Will be waiting for a day or 2 for that.

Just downloaded a free book, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Looks like it has both the text of the book plus scanned images of many pages in the original book. Seems to work really well.

I've found the book selection on iBookstore to be pretty limited thus far.

I had a list of about 10 books I'd hoped to buy, books that were all available for Kindle, and only 3 of them were available on iBookstore. Doh!

Timothy, the Kindle's had three plus years to arrange contracts with the various publishers. The Nook is still pretty darned short on books and they've been available longer than the iPad. It takes time to set up contracts; it'll get there.
