Apple will most likely put something like this in when they have a front-facing camera.

Also, you never really know anything with Apple.;)

When do you think Apple will make it?

For messaging purposes or video purposes?

Messaging- Never. You have IM clients and Messaging.app
Video- Whenever they put a front-facing camera on the iPhone. Probably 4.0.:(

BTW- Please use MRoogle. This has been discussed multiple times before.

Maybe never.

Some people will opt for lower voice plan if they have iChat with or without front-facing camera.

they will make it when comptetion is catching up there saving better features for newer phones like the iphone 4th gen

Here's the issue with iChat. What's the point of a "Messaging" app. You wouldn't need to text anymore since you can get on iChat and send IM's to phones.

...I have absolutely no idea where you're getting the ridiculous notion that iChat would replace text messages for people, especially since you can already "send messages to phones" with AIM, Beejive, whatever.

AT&T wont allow MMS because of their servers or certain streaming programs... and you really think they will allow video conferencing? lol... no way.

No. AT&T won't allow MMS on the iPhone (not for another month or so), and other phones on AT&T are perfectly capable with streaming things such as Slingbox

I've heard that Apple wants to come out with video Chat, so doubtful they'll do iChat. Apple likes to be innovative and that'll definitely stir things up if they ever come out with video chat.

there is WhatsApp which we just launched two days ago.

ok so the app is not iChat and we are not Apple, but i think we came pretty close in some basic functionality (we got a few more features to add like group chat, etc. which we are working on)

but go to http://itunes.com/app/whatsapp and take a look at our app. it lets you chat directly with your contacts (similar to how BBM does it)

app is free right now, but we will probably start charging for it once all the advanced features like group chat, file xfer, etc. are done.

???? the nice thing about texting is that nobody around the sender or receiver knows when texting is going on. It's quiet, un-disturbing and secretive. Pretty much hard to do if you're iChat-ing.

I hardly text anymore since I got a BlackBerry - I've gone from 7-800 a month to less than 50 because everyone I talk to has a BlackBerry, so we use BBM.
