I hope Apple will never do it. It's such a useless feature. About 4 years ago, almost every cellphone had a front facing camera. Nowadays, front facing cameras are a rarity. Why? Because nobody cares!

Those cameras were not capable of full-screen video chat, as the iPhone would be. I would use this feature all the time, I can promise you.

It is always at this time of the year that before a new iPhone is released, that rumors of iChat always appear. So, when's the rumored back-lit Apple logo coming?

I am probably missing something here,
but phones with front-facing cameras and full-screen video conferencing has been around for years. Was not a big hit....I have it and have hady on a couple of Sonys and hardly ever use it...
Seems like people don't want to be seen allways when talking on the phone...

Well, on AT&T such video chat has always cost an arm and a leg and have only allowed chat with other users on the same network. What we're talking about it the ability to do video chat for free over IP with users all over the world, including those on computers. That's a whole different ball game.

Agreed.

The iPhone needs something like BBM before I will switch from a blackberry to iphone. More powerful, elegant and less carrier dependant than texts (more than 160 characters thanks), and not as formal as an email.

Among the social circles I travel in, BBM has sufficient critical mass that it brings non-blackberry users to blackberry just for the BBM.

I hardly text anymore since I got a BlackBerry - I've gone from 7-800 a month to less than 50 because everyone I talk to has a BlackBerry, so we use BBM.
