I don't feel that iCloud is useless, but it is an example of how blatantly complacent Apple can be. They hype it up and act like it's a superior service to other clouds when it's not even close.
I think all most people wanted apple to do was copy Dropbox. ICD is a mess.
Thanks for the workaround but why oh why can't apple just let us save our pics easily to the darn thing.Sorry to dig up this old thread but I thought it was worth pointing this out.
If you want to save a picture or a file to iCloud Drive then email it to yourself from the share sheet. When you receive the email (or for that matter any email from anywhere with an attachment) press and hold the attachment and in the share sheet is an option to save it to iCloud Drive, you can then choose your folder, etc
Bit of a workaround and obviously no good for hundreds of photos but it might help someone.
KISS has left the Apple building. Never to return. RIP!Try doing that with a photo from the camera roll. Simple enough request....
While it's not what you're asking for or pointing out (I get it) I did want to recommend workflow for iOS as a powerful workaround. So we have a new iCloud Drive icon. Big deal.
The service is as half baked now as the day it was released…
Why on earth didn’t Apple add ICD to the default share sheet.
- I seem unable to send a photo to iCloud Drive from my camera roll. Though I’d use that to transfer between devices because Air Drop is so unreliable - but, no, seems it can’t be done.
- Some apps can save to ICD but not open from it.
- Some apps can open from ICD but not save to it.
- Office for iOS can save to ICD but only copy from it - not open the document just saved!
This is exactly it.what i dont like on apples approach is that instead of navigating and actually seeing the FILE you have to guess and hope a certain app can open a certain filetype instead. its so backwards. just show me all the files, let me click on it with a "open with" pop up
Please go and work for Apple!!! i dont think most people even know this exists. also extensions adoption seems to be almost non existing when it comes to photo filters within the default photo app. I have 10+ photo apps installed and none support the extension to use them right within the default photo appShare Sheets

But that’s precisely the philosophy they adhere to. You think in terms of a desktop file system, but Apple has traditionally not liked that paradigm and refuses to let it slip into iOS for that reason. The idea is that an application manages its own files, just as Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Messages already do. It’s the core of the iOS user experience and I wouldn’t hold my breath.
That is also why iCloud Drive on iOS is ‘crippled’. It is not supposed to be a file manager, it is a file picker that appears when you need to retrieve a file. The only reason why the icon can be enabled is because some people would like to manage the iCloud Drive on their phones too, but it is in essence still a file picker.
but its sooooo confusing like
where is the original file?
do i change the original file if i edit it in an app?
does it simply make a copy of the file?
how can i delete it in one app without erasing it everywhere?
can i see the changes i make with one app in another app?
its a whole clusterf to me

You can create a workflow that will show in any apps share sheet and have it save anything to iCloud Drive.
That's just a drop in the bucket for what this app can do.
I'd need more than 6 reviews to spend £2.99 on an app I don't really understand. Thanks for the heads up though.
