Why would Apple not want to add value (i.e., iCloud) to a product they want you to buy (i.e., Lion)? Folks have already bought SL. It's not available any more. There's no more money in it for Apple.

Honestly... some of you people think Apple is a public service or some kind of government agency that owes you something.

First, Lion's not ready to be a suitable replacement for many SL users, it's very buggy and inefficient to say the least and creates problems for many users that doesn't happen under SL making it the better choice for the majority of Mac users that are capable of upgrading to Lion until many critical issues have been resolved.

Then you have Rosetta users who can't upgrade to Lion, forcing them to spend over a thousand dollars just to access iCloud makes little sense, esp when it condemns them to run into issues stated above that didn't exist under SL. Besides, iCloud has been a disaster much like MobileMe with lots of issues of its own... having people spend the money to buy a whole new machine to have access to a mediocre cloud service is good for the customer?

Whether a customer spends $30 or $1000, they all deserve service, especially when you consider the sheer amount of loyal Mac users. The reason why I could never seriously recommend many businesses to make the move to Apple is because Apple's the type of company that's not loyal to its customers, it's a one way street where Apple expects customers to be loyal with little to none back.

I wouldn't be so critical of Apple about the issue of forcing SL users to Lion if Lion was a much better product.

Given the huge number of Mac users embracing Lion, as documented by Apple, I'd say that number of people who cannot upgrade is not as large you may think and will be shrinking as the year progresses.

Lion is the future, love or hate it, and you cannot expect any company to add new features to an OS that has been replaced

The number of Snow Leopard users is much larger than Lion users. 55% of Mac users are still on Snow Leopard.

You're 100% correct… they gain no money from not selling an OS, however hey alienate a descent portion of users that could be profitable from upgraded iCloud accounts. Public service? No, but supporting your user base within reasonable means is a great way to keep your customers. Government agency that owes me something? I whole heartedly chuckled thinking of just what does are government really do for anyone… but that's a whole other topic.

Replace iCal and AddressBook in SL

So, instead of continuing with these philosophical matters of whether Apple should or shouldn't have done something, Does anyone have some suggestion of GOOD Apps to replace iCal (events and ToDos) and Address Book (contacts) for Snow Leopard?

I can't upgrade to Lion because a couple Apps that do not work well in it, but I really need to get contacts, events and todo syncing with iCloud again. I know about BusyCal, and may get it for events and to-Dos. But what about Contacts?

Thanks.

I'm on Snow Leopard, and I love Google's calendar and address features. They all sync to iCal, my iPhone, my Android phone, and Gmail... all automagically. Truly hassle-free. For that matter, I have iTunes Match going on, and my iPhone plays all my music off the iTunes Cloud despite not having Lion. Probably not the same thing as iCloud exactly, even though they both use the little cloud icon.
