i'm quite happy to substitute a 3.5" screen for the awesome retina display. i can't live without it anymore. everytime i see my brothers second gen it looks really bad :S on the other hand, they could make a bigger display on the touch. i like my phone small and compact

What makes you think they can't make a larger screen. Its half an inch. They CAN do just about anything, especially for a little extra money if need be. The Galaxy S phones have really good screens and aren't more expensive. I don't think there is that big of a difference between 4 and 4.3, but moving the screen size up to 4 seems easy. I'm going to hold off on getting a new iphone until the screen is 4" at the minimum.

Interesting to note that about 54% want something larger than the current screen. One could miss that, given that the current size has the most votes.

I totally love my iphone, but would be thrilled to get 4.5" if it could be done with reasonable battery life. (a big if)

None of those. 3.7' like the droid incredible. But the screen has to have the same 326 ppi.

Gotta agree here. If it didn't need to be a phone also, I don't think it being a little bigger would be a bad thing (on the other hand it does fit nicer at the size it is right now, but the touch is thinner so it still would fit in my purse ok).

But, since it is a phone, I do think it being wider would be a bad thing in terms of it functioning as a phone as well. So the Touch I don't think would be a bad thing to make it bigger.

I do like the larger screen on the Epic 4G, but everything else about iPhone 4's screen is superior. I own both, btw.

I think that they could bump up the size to 4" w/o increasing the size of the phone. Just reduce the bezel and change the aspect ratio to a wider format. Moving up to 4.3" requires a larger body, and that would push me away from upgrading.
Frankly, the trend towards larger handsets is what kept me away from Android a few months ago. I didn't like the Incredible and all of the other top-tier phones were too large for me.

Hey guys, so I was bored and created a photoshop render of what a 4.3" iPhone would look like. Check it out.

A 4.3" iPhone wouldn't be all that much bigger because it'll have a smaller bezel. So people who are concerned with a device fitting in their pocket, I think even with this large screen it's doable.

That image really drives home how much I do NOT want this. The iPhone is large already. If the phone gets any bigger, I'd question getting one and my wife would NEVER buy a phone that large
I'm not questioning your opinion, this is just my preference. I fear apple would lose a lot of customers with that much of an increase.

Why is your preference the same as everyone else's preference?

I think a larger iPhone would still sell well. 4.3" Android phones sell very well so I don't know why it wouldn't be any different in the iPhone's case.

I'd like an EVO form factor for the next iphone

Yes please!

Some have repeatedly stated that they like the 3.5 inch screen and would like it to stay that way. Great!

I would love to see a 4.3 inch screen iPhone. I also have an iPad so please refrain from posting all the 'well go get an iPad bullchit'!

Probably setting myself up for disappointment as I sincerely doubt Apple has any plans in the near future to offer a larger screen iPhone. Maybe they'll surprise me and all others who would appreciate the same feature.

I was at a dinner last week where everyone had a cell phone (a few had smartphones while the rest had dumb phones) and I was the only one with an iPhone.

Everyone wanted to see the iP4 so I passed it around and while everybody liked it a lot, I was surprised by how just about everyone commented how large it was. Of course this sampling of people isn't meant to indicate anything definitive.

Sure, a lot of us here may appreciate the larger screen real estate (heck, we do everything on our phones) but I feel that a good percentage of the larger populous of mainstream and/or non-techy users would not like the larger size. Apple simply had to strike a fine balance between device size and functionality while trying to cater for the largest pool of potential buyers and IMO they achieved it.

Obviously my preference is not the same as everyone else's; however I have met very few people outside of the IT crowd who like the size of the EVO. Changing the size of the iPhone is effectively changing the market it is targeting.
I stand by my fear that a larger phone could alienate a significant portion the existing user base.

ever have that problem on your iPhone where you have to keep swiping left and right on your safari browser to view everything in its entirety? yeah, 4.3' users don't have that much of a problem with that.

4.3 is too big? valid complaint. im currently droid x owner and i LOVE it to death. however, i think 4' would be ideal.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't mean much. Droid X, Epic 4G, EVO 4G, there's already a market out there for 4"+ size phones. All of these devices are quite successful.

As of now, the iPhone bezel is too big. Apple could easily keep a similar form factor and decrease the bezel. What you have is a bigger screen without a bigger phone.

4.0 is the sweet spot in my opinion. 4.3 is to big and would require making the phone larger...and suck mad battery.

Yes, there is a market for larger phones but Apple is targeting a wider audience then these. Look at the phones you list and ask yourself "who is it for?". The phones you listed appeal primarily to more technical users.

I suggested the same thing. This is the real solution.

I switched from iPhone to Droid X and prefer the 4.3" over 3.5", but Im thinking 4" would be the best solution

Apple makes multiple sizes of all its devices except for the mobile ones because their competitors do. There is clearly a market for a larger screen phone. They don't have to make 1 phone for everyone. HTC has several phones. Samsung just got started and they have different form factors on each carrier. If nothing else Apple could keep making a 3.5" to compete with the HTC Incredible and a larger screen version to compete w/ the EVO and whatever its successor is.

Wouldn't be apples style to do so. Their flagship is the iphone. They possibly could come out with a 4 inch screen. But to offer different option, to me it's not their style.

I wouldn't mind a 4 inch screen ONLY if it didn't take away from the incredible screen quality it has know. No other smartphone comes close in crispness. iphone 4 screen is like looking at a printed piece of paper.
