A three box set:

1) A Mac Mini-like box that runs an Intel Viiv enabled chip that functions as a Mac+DVR. This version of the Mini is completely wireless--including a wireless video connction to...

2) A 30" Cinema HD display with optional desktop and wall mounts

3) A combination iPod PDA with Newton-like features, that fits into a built in iPod dock interface in the Mac Mini device. This device is flash memory based and has no moving parts.

Might as well "Dream Different" too.

:)

I think the Mac Mini Pro ViiV is the best bet.

Rumours of a wireless screen running on flash ram would be very nice - a must have.

I hope not. That would be saying Apple was more about iPods than computers.

Yeah please don't do that, this is Apple that is 30 years...they make computers and digital music players are a side product that does well ;)

An ipod is a computer. It may not be a personal computer but it is a computer. Why it has CPU, ram, hard drive everything.
The Apple ]|[, I'd like that, but it sounds expensive (lots of old technology that apple can't just buy but will have to set up factories to remake) and sounds like it has limited appeal.
Why don't they just put an intel board in a Apple ][s case :D Cheap to do and cool collector item. Apple ][ core duo. Ships with a free Apple ][ emulator. ;)
With an execute button added as a gag. ;)
4 8 15 16 23 42.

Mmm by that simple analogy, however true, my mobile phone is a computer. Likely if I had a watch it would be a computer. My printer is a computer. Most new cars are computers. In fact most sophistcated electrical appliances probably are as well.
While its technically true what you say I think its a pretty apparent what we meant by not an ipod but a real Apple Mac computer...

Yes, those devices are all computers (aside from the watch probably). ;)
Personal computers are what we are talking about though in this forum. I will say though that the ipod is far more like a personal computer than the majority of devices with a CPU in them. That is to say, it's not that far from apple's core product really which is the mac.

30 years of Apple - PPC Power Mac

Right - I would like to see a Dual Core Dual 3GHz PPC G5! Just as a, "sorry its a bit late!" We know the single core G5 couldn't hit the 3GHz mark, question is, can they hit 3GHz with the newer Dual Core model?

Would have had to be developed a while ago with IBM - but I'm hoping!

FireArse

I doubt it, the dual core G5 had to be brought down to 2.5ghz.
The more cores the more heat, mhz has to be kept down to prevent the heat level from becoming absurd.

i don't think there will be a 30th anniversary mac. they hae too much going on now as it is, i just can't see it happening really as it wouldn't be a continued line, just a special edition.

unless of course they do go to a 30" iMac, and subsequently kept it as an option. that would be sweet. but also unlikely.

A machintosh powered by 2 cell processors. each designed to run beter in a regular computer.

Quite a few features of the TAM made it into other machines afterwards - I think that Apple could do a short run of a concept computer. Getting something out into the field always provides better feedback than building an engineering prototype alone.

Another approach might be to use an existing logic board but with more powerful processor and an expensive cooling solution in a custom case. A TAM II doesn't need to be quite so limited by cost, size or materials as a mass-produced item.

But perhaps the most likely would be to choose the most innovative product that was planned to be released anyway, create a custom case for it and release it as the TAM II. Then later introduce the product as a standard line item with a more conservative case as PlaceOfDis suggested.

Personally, I do hope that we'll see a TAM II and that it does premiere some new technology and materials.

I think the 30th Aniv. Mac will be something that will make you go "Where the f*** is the computer??". It is supposed to be a concept hinting at future technologies and innovations just like the current iMac is inspired by the TAM. Now Apples design philosophy is to make technology completely transparent to the user so i think this philosophy will apply on the new TAM.
Also i don't think they will use PPC processors, maybe Intels dual dual Cores to mark the beginning of a new generation of Macs.
I only hope they also apply their new pricing philosophy to it and keep it at a reasonable price, cause am running out of arms and legs! :(

but then Jobs gets back up and it all turns out to be an act..........;)

Personally while they may do computers i think an iPod will be nice. More people could afford it, and this is not 30 years of mac. Its 30 years of Apple and they are about innovation. iPod is one of those, a 30 years of apple would make a nice ipod

LOL

That would be AWESOME! :D

whatever they do it needs to have a dual layer burner and firewire 800 or the people will start whining.

There are a lot of good suggestions in this thread. I'll go with _Matt's idea and follow it to its allusion's conclusion -- that whoever doesn't steal the Newton G5 or the Everlasting Podbattery will be given the position of Apple CEO and the magic key to direct the release of the 30th Anniversary Mac...

which I think will probably be a computer hidden entirely in a large LCD or Plasma TV with Bluetooth peripherals.

I'd like to see an iMac with a battery and touchscreen (tablet). Since Apple is so good at "lifestyle" computers I think they'd really improve on the tablets currently available.

I'm thinking,

23"/24" iMac (black or white)
2X Intel Core Duo Processors (4 Cores total)
Blue-ray
+ the usual stuff

Practical yet powerful. Would sell extremely well.

perhaps. but minus the Blue-ray. dual layer superdrive sure. but not blue-ray yet.

I'm slightly serious about this, but what if Apple decided to finally release a PowerBook G5. They're already got the new MacBook Pro to deal with the serious customers who want what the PowerBook G5 would have offered, but just to say "Yeah, we could do it if we wanted, but why would you want us to," they could come out with one. Make it about 3" thick to accommodate the water-cooling mechanism and the rest of the massive components, and just remind people that if they really wanted a PowerBook G5 they'd better be willing to sacrifice for it.

Oh, and it'll cost $4999.
