ЧИКАГО!
Them: "To get to the real Internet you must have IE."

Me: "Like I was..."

Them: "That's why Macs are so limited. You can't use the full Internet with a Mac!"

Me: "I can access the Internet using Safari."

Them: "Yeah, right. You don't know what you are talking about."

Me: Shaking my head.

The above conversation has happened to me all too often in the past. Thankfully, now days, I don't hear it as much.

Then again, maybe I don't know what the full Internet is? :p :D

I'm also one of those misled SUCKERS that was tricked into buying a Mac.
We're missing out on all of those IE-only websites written with Microsoft Publisher.
Oh, and a boatload of REALLY NEAT stuff that you can get for free, automatically!
After all, who doesn't want Internet Security 2010? It's FREE for the asking and you don't even have to ask! Just open IE and POW! Friendly, Helpful windows pop up and scan your computer for any passwords, credit card numbers or personal information that you might have forgotten. They are then forwarded to appropriate authorities who are eagerly waiting to verify your accounts and pay all your bills for you. They might even buy you a new TV set or even a Car!

But we as foolish Apple customers know nothing of the full Internet.

Have Fun,
Keri:p

I myself use Chrome a lot because as of Version 4.0, it's actually become a very viable and usable web browser with lightning-fast page rendering speeds.

Same, Chrome has since replaced Safari as my main browser on Windows. It's a really great browser.

I'm still on Safari on the Mac side though, The scrolling in chrome just doesn't cut it for me at the moment.

I am amazed that so many people are still using internet explorer, but i guess it mus just be those regular people who have little to no extra knowledge of how to get the most out of the web. Personally IE is as obsolete as Netscape.... that said I wouldnt say Chrome is the greatest thing since sliced bread.... but it sure is far more user friendly.

I think Microsoft overall are slowly becoming more and more irrelevant.

Yep. I would say quite a few folks still believe this way.

Yep. True as well.

Them: "You use Safari?"

Me: "Yes"

Them: "But then how do you access the Internet without IE?"

Me: "With Safari"

Them: "No you can't. You must use IE!"

Me: "But you...."

I think I know where these folks work.
I'm taking a web apps class -one of the first things you learn is 'check in different browsers.' But the school tech admins (not the instructors, mind you) of the PCs refuse to upgrade anything but IE, even if it somehow got installed. I don't know anyone in class who likes the IE and most of us bring our own computer to class and use something else. This is awkward as we aren't allowed to plug in and the wifi is erratic.

I've also gone online for job hunting recently and kept running into IE or netscape only application forms. Recently mind you. Yes, I know where these people must work. Unfortunately for us all, they work in the worst places, where they can have a crippling effect.

When I used it years ago IE was ok. At least I don't recall monster crashes or major annoyances. But when I tried it on the school PC this newer version kept interrupting with 'look at my cool info bars' and the like. These particular popups I had no idea how to disable. Finally I gave up on it. I'll use the crippled firefox, whose plug ins are outdated over the awful monstrosity of the newer IE!

IE is fast becoming irrelevant. MS should either fix the much-maligned trash they foist on everyone or just yield to those who can do it better, such as Google, Mozilla, etc.

I think most of the population sees the blue 'e' and thinks that is the internet. I'll bet a lot of people don't really know what a browser is too. As long as Windows is 95% of the market IE is always going to have larger browser share :(

IE9 does have ambitious goals for IE and will hopefully be a big bonus to those of us who have to use IE. At work must have been a few months back maybe 3-4 now we were upgraded from IE6 to IE8 which is a big bonus however our mapping system that we use is actually version of IE6 customised and this is a relatively new application as well, came about after IE6 was superseded by IE7 and IE8.

IE will be the major browser for a long long time its good that it has dropped as it seems they are being a bit more progressive in order to fight the competition.

Once upon a time this garbage was at 0% share (ah, to dream), before MS licensed Mosaic and began to spaghetti-code.

Wow! Someone actually remembers what happened way back then. I still remember using Mosaic. What a change that was, as compared to having to FTP the servers. :)
