for multitask, have the 4 finger swip activate expose like they have on the lappies

I've been waiting for them to do something with 3 and 4 finger swipes. Maybe just three though, 4 can't really happen in portrait on that size screen.

What REALLY is there worth changing in the UI? Besides adding multi-tasking and a better notification system, I'm perfectly fine with how everything operates. If you have this need for customization, just jailbreak it and you'll have every option in the world available to you.

Multi-tasking is definitely coming, so that's one down for me. Better notification system is likely, at least I'm hoping, then I just want individual apps improved on like the global mailbox addition, improving the calendar app or whatever, and so on.

Widgets would be nice, would add a great section in the app store as well, but I don't mind doing it myself if I have to. Obviously prefer not to though :p

How long have you had an iPhone?

I think the phone should be able to operate with just 1 hand. 3 and 4 fingers would need your other hand.

Maybe this is were the touch sensitive back would come into play.

TheSpaz, you do have a habit of derailing threads for no point on little things like this. I have noticed this from you quite often unfortunately

Cry about it. Baby. I don't care anymore.

Here comes my ban.

Also, I think Apple has a lot more experience in user interface design than you or any of us, so leave it up to them. They know what looks good.

That colored wallpaper that the other dude has is just horrid.

User choice isn't always right.

I dunno what world you live in, but when I try to put 4 fingers on the screen while holding it in the same hand gravity makes it fall right out.

We also have 2 hands;)

When I use my iphone, I hold it in my left and navigate with my right.

However, I am also thinking of the ipad as well in this regard

Proswitcher meanwhile can be set up with a simple swipe across a certain region or a hold on a region

But if you read what i said in the first place, I said that the phone should be able to be operated with one hand................................................but nvm...

EDIT: And ohh ok. To the iPad part.

Jeebus, you are something aren't you?

By your logic, let's not be able to customize anything, from wallpapers on computers, to tinted windows, wheels, home projects, anything

Also, thanks for resorting to name calling. Stay classy

Well, I didn't read what you said in the first place. I made my original comment without needing your input
**sorry lol**

edit: guess I read it but didn't like reeeead it lol. Happens to me alot

You know what else you can operate with one hand?...

Oh ok. Just making sure you weren't someone who got a 3GS for Christmas or something and is saying that they aren't tired of the UI lol. :)

I'm one of those who can play around with customizing for hours and hours and after jailbreaking :p

I understand why some people would rather it be possible with stock firmware but it's all good to me.

I am something, that's for sure.

And…. you're welcome.

When you've been around as long as I have and tried helping people a lot… only to get shot down for being slightly obsessive and picky… you realize that you don't care anymore and just say whatever you want.

I speak how I feel. No secrets.

Also, don't mind me too much tonight… I've been drinking.

Fine, keep it relevant to the thread please aka don't derail it.

I usually like your comments but this ones seems stupid to me. I read your thread breaking down the glitches in design with 3.0. The graphics that were off. Your logic doesn't make sense in this argument unless you nullify your previous statements.

We are all human including whoever works at Apple. So yes they do know more about user interface, that doesn't mean we should leave it up to them to tell us what looks good. If you followed your own advice, you would be on 3.0 OS now. Just saying.

Oops my bad, should have clarified. Launch of 3G. So almost 3 years (stupid canadian contracts).

The 3G launched in July 2008, so it's only been about 19 months.

If 4.0 has a user interface "refreshment" what are possibilities?

I don't know if they can make it more refreshing than this.

here is a novel idea, which I've stated about 7 times on this forum... silence the critics, make money, promote customization and individualize the iPhone by.................

ADDING THEMES TO THE APP STORE!!!!

Jailbroken phones are sick and individualized from the ground up.. it just needs to be regulated like the app development and they can sell full, partial, lockscrene or whatever themes for like .99c...

Why is this such a forign concept for apple to grasp. Iphones been out for 3 years same icons, same everything... integrate what is already available on over 2-Million Iphones and make money doing it.. SELL THEMES!!!

No way. Noone should be able to make a living from themes the same way somone can for apps. All you would see in this "theme" store would be work ripped from sites such as deviant art and sold on for profit. There would be far to many rights disputes with people using work that is not their own.

so don't use an image that makes your phone look cluttered?

tbh though, the only reason it looks cluttered is because the icons are so big. look at android, that can look great, but that's because the icons are smaller, the text is easy to read against any background, and the icons can be laid out however you want rather than them snapping to how apple wants you to lay it out.

maybe it's just me, but i don't find this to be cluttered:

Sorry to pile up on you, but yes, in the technical sense of design, that is cluttered. The icons get lost against the backdrop. If you lowered the opacity of the background, it may look ok, but if Apple were to release something like that, it would be considered functionally ineffective.

no worries, at least you were constructive about it. however, i disagree and i'm happy with it. i've never once looked at my phone with that background and thought "oh snap, i can't find my app because it blends in with the background....", they really don't. i like my iphone to be set up to please me, not everyone else. it's really that simple. perhaps the background doesn't illustrate my point as effective as the default ipad background (or something equally plain) would, but the point i wrote still stands. smaller icons, better text and user placed icons are an effective way of limiting the cluttered look. android pulls it off just fine so there is no reason why apple can't...

to be honest i'm more interested in what apple does with the notification system. if that doesn't change then i'm out.

[edit to avoid double post]

can i also requote this?

so don't use an image that makes your phone look cluttered?

the point is choice, not whether people like my home screen or not. you'd simple choose a different image, would you not? even if it was a plain old black one again.

people talk about keeping every phone the same, that's fine, keep icons and menus unchanged and unchangeable. changing the background is not suddenly going to stop someone from being able to use someone else's iphone. all the icons and icon labels will still be the same... it's like buying a car, i'd like to be able to pick the colour and alloys, maybe even the colour of the interior, but just because these things are different to my friends doesn't mean i'm suddenly not going to be able to find the ignition or radio, they will still be in the same place as his...

3 things i'd like...

upcoming calendar events listed on the lock screen
something like 6 most used apps on the search screen (yeah right)
and for text's to re-send if the phone is out of signal when you sent it :(

oh and flash... (yes i'm joking) :D
