I love the mini for what it is; a small, multi-use little Mac that can be shoved anywhere to do pretty much everything. I've used my minis in the past as TV set top boxes, I use one as a server, I use one as a projector slave in my classroom, pretty much anywhere that I need a quiet little Mac to sit there and do its thing. It's nice having a full-featured computer for that. If they keep up with that ideal, I'll likely be in the market for another one soon enough!

What do you use for remote management of those Macs, now that they are killing Back to My Mac?

I have a 2012 Mini on my desk that I may turn into a server if the new Mini is good. So just wondering.

If there is a new mac mini, and it offers options to get it up to the internals similar to higher end MBPs, then i'm in 100%. To be fair I have only been waiting 3 years so I can understand why many are frustrated - but for me this is a pretty good time (though don't know if i could have waited much longer)

As of right now, I have all of my Macs standardized on High Sierra, so I still have Back to my Mac available. Most of my Macs are cutoff at HS, so it works for now.

I'm honestly not certain what I'll do for remote access once I end up upgrading. I'll seriously miss Back to my Mac; I've been using it for years and find it super handy.

I was until the Mohave screen gate issue has ruined non retina screen resolutions. Just to confirm the issue I went to a local Apple store to look at a 1080p monitor iMac running OSX 14 before upgrading the Mini to OSX 14. It was horrible. Not sure what my upgrade path is now?

I may pick up a USB drive and make a CC clone of HS and upgrade the Mini to OSX 14 just to confirm MY setup suffers this issue and go from there depending on results.

Didn't see this issue coming from left field for sure. Disappointed to say the least! Funny thing is its a software issue and not hardware !! AAUUUGGGGG

What screen gate? Mine has a 30” ACD on Mojave and it looks fine to me.

For local admin over LAN you still can use MacOS screen sharing. For over the Internet I started using Chrome Remote Desktop - it has some bugs but the basics work and it is easy to set up.

I will likely buy one to replace my, slow as molasses, 2012 MBP at home, but ONLY if they actually include some legacy ports. At least a couple USB3's. Otherwise, I'm not going back to a bunch of damn dongles. I know you can get usb-c to legacy USB cords, and I will if I have to, but for the love of 'reality' at least include an SD card slot. I know it's ancient technology at this point and they'll never include one, but everyone (else) on the planet still uses these things, including my drone, gopro, etc. So why make me buy a separate 'box' to plug all this stuff into. Defeats the purpose of having a 'desktop' machine - which should be able to do everything without a bunch of attachments. A Laptop, they could make the case for ditching the legacy ports since lightweight and portable are the primary considerations. And I'm holding on to my 15" MBP as long as possible for this reason. Ok, whining over.

They are going to do whatever they're going to do. I hope the new mini at least looks cool or has an innovative design, I kind of miss that with Apple. I wouldn't call something (iMac, MPB, MB) 'redesigned' if it pretty much looks just like the older one, only thinner. Lazy aesthetics in my view. Ok, rant over.

Whatever Apple, just build the thing already. And when you can break away long enough from 'redesigning' a $1000 phone for the umpteenth time, let me know.

The Mac Mini is a desktop, thus expect something similar to the iMac, plus probably HDMI and maybe Display Port.

My first Mac Mini was the 2005 original, which came with just 2 USB ports. With the addition of a hub I had all the ports I needed.

I’d like to buy one, too. I just want to make sure that I’ll be able to connect my DAC in USB & my TV to watch movies in 4K HDR. I hope the Mini will be powerful enough and handle the correct resolution for 4K & 60 fps

With 4K televisions fast becoming the new standard in most homes across America, I am sure Apple will give the new Mac Mini 4K video output capabilities...

I am hoping for a nice upgrade of my 2012 I7 quad. It still runs amazingly well. I purchased it 2 months before the 2014 came out because I had a feeling they were going to gimp it. And they did. I definitely want 4k 60fps. Fingers crossed for something I can throw my money at!

I'm sure it'll have 4k abilities (Kaby Lake or Coffee Lake) but the problem is Apple, as far as I'm aware, has not provided the ability to decode HDR in its computers (or Atmos or DTS-X audio passthrough). Only the Apple TV can do HDR and Atmos (but not DTS-X).

Thanks, AppleBama...
