Have to be one hell of a cooling system in the iPad Pro if they do put the M1 pro/max chip in it.M2
Seven months after iPad Air got A14, iPad Pro got M1. Be patient.
M1 Pro/Max is a 30W processor. No way it's going inside a 6mm chassis.
Have to be one hell of a cooling system in the iPad Pro if they do put the M1 pro/max chip in it.
No. the Pro will get the M2.if Air got M1, will Pro get M1 Pro/Max?
What should we expect from Pro, now that Air has the former Pro’s processor?
So many posts in other threads (e.g. "Air 5 is a joke") unequivocally state that putting an M1 in an iPad is "pointless", "a joke", "unnecessary".
Why would the iPad Pro need something more?
Well, you phrased the question in a way that doesn’t really allow for a lot of discussion does it? A simple answer would be that all of those people are simply - wrong. So many posts in other threads (e.g. "Air 5 is a joke") unequivocally state that putting an M1 in an iPad is "pointless", "a joke", "unnecessary".

So, how are you going to hold it than?I reckon that the next IPP 11, will get the MacBook Pro screens i.e 120 Mhz Mini LED with absolutely minimal bezels and notch. This will in turn increase the screen size to maybe 11.5“, maybe even 12”, with the current 12.9” model following suit. They will then leave the ipad Air to cover the 11” screen size.
This is a good point. So, it is technically impossible to use the performance of the M1Pro in an iPad Pro due to limited cooling capabilities?the main benefit of M1 is RAM (which is a huge benefit). The CPU/GPU benefits of M1 in the Air for gaming are limited because the Air 5 screen is just 60hz and even A14 can run basically everything at 60hz.
M1 pro, even in the iPad pro, would add very little, on the contrary it would detract more than it would add because if would kill the battery faster and throttle heavily in that slim body with no fans.
It make zero sense in the iPad.
Nah, it'll be the M1X. the Macbooks/desktops will get the M2 first then the Pro's.The next iPad Pro will get the M2. It’s not that hard to see.
I was thinking something along those lines. But M1X makes little sence since it doesnt exist, so a M1Pro for a Pro would be a nice fit, if only possible heat and battery wise.. Also, I would like that.Nah, it'll be the M1X. the Macbooks/desktops will get the M2 first then the Pro's.
Doesn't make a lick of sense. M{}X chips don't exist - that branding has been replaced by Pro, Max, Ultra, etc.Nah, it'll be the M1X. the Macbooks/desktops will get the M2 first then the Pro's.
Exactly, there is no way you can make full use of M1 pro performance in the iPad. And since M1 is still mostly underutilized that would make little sense anyway, because again, even if you use M1 pro to some extent it would suck much more battery than M1 anyway. 16GB RAM is already available with iPad pro M1.This is a good point. I would sure enjoy at least bumping RAM at 16Gigs for the smaller Pro models, if not a better / faster processor.
even thou, a Pro in an iPad Pro , seems to make the most sence. If it was in any way possbile to have it - and - utilise its performance, I would bet Tim Cook would be putting it inside it. Let’s see what the future holds
Unless Apple can bend the laws of thermodynamics, it’s very unlikely we will ever see an M grade chip in an iphone. They would throttle so badly because of the heat in such a small chassis, that said M chip would perform worse than an equivalent A series chip, as-well as consuming too much battery power. The pros will likely get M2, but that won’t happen until M2 is launched in a Mac, I am presuming Apple will launch M2 in the MacBook Air, but recent leaks suggest that the M1 is going in the redesigned Air making me think the chip shortage is really starting to take its toll on Apple, especially now reports are coming out that the standard iPhone 14 is sticking with the A15 chip and not A16 (I personally believe they will stick M1 on the Pro iPhones this year too FWIW).
It wouldn’t surprise me if apple just keep everything M1 for another year at this point.
Yeah I second this, they really need to bring something big to iPadOS this year otherwise they will really be falling behind software wise with their iPad line up and it’s such a shame.likely M2 but I just hope apple makes ipados16 worth it with features to take advantage of the power.
Yeah although I agree with heat issues etc if Apple have a way of downclocking the existing M1 it could potentially happen…. Who knows, the M1 is technically an A14X anyway, so essentially it’s an A series chip rebranded… only time will tell I suppose.Unless Apple can bend the laws of thermodynamics, it’s very unlikely we will ever see an M grade chip in an iphone.
