If the colored macs came back, would people go crazy for them? I mean, assuming they had modern technology like G4/Intel, Combo/Superdrives,AP Extreme, etc....
Give your opinion!
EDIT: And the CRT's would be replaced by LCD's, and iMacs would be slot loading, not the hideous tray loading iMacs.

I would! But I don't know about everyone else. The trend seems to be towards lean machines, which the imac G3 is not. Strikes me as too bulky for this age. Plus the fact that they look a bit toyish.

I have seen coloured iMac G5's. I think they were painted or decaled though. Soem even had designs on them.

I would absolute love to see this in either iMac or iBook

My dream Mac, an iPod mini (but larger in the relatively same dimensions of the current products) and cut it open, for a laptop. I would just love to see the same colors as the iPod mini. Mmmm I would buy it in a heart beat.:D   :p :) :D

Edit: Maybe just the iMac in silver aluminum, but iBooks in all the other colors

personally, i dont think it's possible for them to return to the colour based computing of old. they have the sleek, minimalist look down to a tee, and to change it would be disaterous IMO. but i have been wrong before.

:D

they wouldnt make silver imacs, its too close to the pro line. but pink blue and green ibooks would be pretty cool

I don't think this would be a bad thing. I think it would cause a boost in sales, mainly consumer level, because lets face it-people love to customize things. More and more these days people want everything they own to be a reflection of their own personality. I'm sure a lot of people would roll their eyes at stuff like that but I say to each his own.

:(

Isn't there anywhere cheaper to get a customized color ibook? It costs an extra $500 to get it colored... expensive. I just want the pink one. Sad, I know. I could get a paint job on my car for that much...

wow that would be nice. I loved the colored mac and that you could see the insides. Maybe the could put an lcd in the emac and make it 5-10 lbs... nice lan party pc. Lots of attention because its has cool colors, and well its a mac.

The black iMacs at Colorware look cool though. I wouldn't mind seeing the options of black and white (like the iPods), on the iMac and new iBook range. Choice is everything.

Colorware does it for just about every Mac product out there.

It looks good in several choices, but equally attractive options are the durable scratch resistance and lack of filminess.

I would love to see some form of exchangeable casings for the iBook, like you can with many cellphones... at least the top casing...

Then you could get any colour or design you wanted (maybe even make your own custom design, which would be awesome) and just take off the old, boring white one and clip/screw on a cooler one... :)

That way Apple could deliver just one model (and not get stuck with a bunch of iBooks in a unsellable colour), and both Apple and 3rd party deliverers could make casings...

As I remember that was the problem with the old multi-coloured iMacs and iPod Minis – the popular colours were frequently out of stock, and resellers were left with unpopular colours they couldn't shift. I think that could well be one of the key reasons why they're sticking with simple, classic white at the moment (and black for the iPods, of course) – it makes things a lot simpler for Apple and its stockists.

a 'classic' range

i think that it would be great for apple to release a proper 'classic' range, of old designs with new innards. I for one would definately buy a G4 imac style machine, they were legendary! I would also love to pick up another 3G ipod! I wouldn't mind paying over the odds for the machines too!Never going to happen though!

I don't think it will happen. The most you can hope for is say a black and a white MacBook. Apple stopped making the iMac those crazy colors back with the end of the G3 and stopped making iPods in colors with the Mini. If it is Apple now, it is either

Silver (MBP, PM, ACD, Mini)
White(iMac, iBook, iPod)
Black (iPod)

I've always thought they should bring back the Clamshell iBooks, might as well bring the G3 iMacs with it too! Heck, bring back Tangerine, Indigo, Graphite in the iBooks, Indigo, Snow, Dalmation, and Graphite in the iMacs, you have the seven colors in the April 1st rumor. Why not? Heck, Apple should bring back a 'remember this??' series for all the macs that were around in 2000 - the PowerBook G3, B&W PowerMac G3, iMac G3, iBook G3 - It sounds perfect!

I remember the keynote that Steve did on the first iMacs with 3 different colors. He said something to the effect that people don't care what components are inside their computer but they do want to decide the color. I can't believe I bought my first Mac within a year after that comment but I remember selecting the color with the Online Store and it was cool to pick the color. It felt like buying a car. I got a green Mac and I really like it to this day.

No, I wouldn't. Back in the time of the iMac G3 I thought they looked alright, but they seemed to be aiming at a kid's bedroom, I certainly woulodn't use them for business and stuff, just because they never seemed to look right in my modern, minimalist and simple plain coloured offices. The newer macs fit right in :)

I love the colors myself. I still have a Grape iMac that I use for everyday stuff. I was very sad when they went white with everything (though that bondi blue was ugly!). I'd hate to see clip on colors though. A number of manufactureers tried that with peripherals so you could match your iMac and they all wound up being cheap pieces of junk that broke easily (I think they even made some PCs like this).

I think that Apple is due for a design shift though. They've had the whole white and silver thing going for quite a while and it's getting old. Everyone is copying it now. I mean you can even get a white Xbox. I thought they would use the Intel chips to introduce new form factors, but so far no luck. I personally hope they don't go black though. There are way too many black PCs and black is almost as boring as that awful computer beige.

Wow. Exactly what my mind speaks. The original iMacs were BEST sellers, and really made a statement. Many PC Makers are copying apple, not as good, but similar. And, back then the macs were cheaper.Look:

Mac Mini-cheapest mac ever-wrong.
$599-$949(raised price, too) for the thing only.
$60-$80 for Mouse & Keyboard.
$499+for apple display.
$49+ for decent speakers.
Total: over $1500 at least. You could get a better iMac for the same price!

Slot Loading iMac
iMac, Display, speakers, Keyboard/Mouse-$ at least $799. And keep in mind that EACH were fast for their times, so you cant critiize the iMac for being slower.

Anyway, older macs(pre-2004) are proven to be reliable. When did the iMac kill a mouse? When has a PowerBook G3 blown up?

The ugly colored macs are the 1999 series- B&W G3's, Blueberry/Tangerine iBooks, and Tray iMacs.

Man, I wish I could be Apple's designer AND marketing Advisor.

This may be off the subject, but I am getting annoyed of the product swithces every few months. Like, I buy the latest iPod. Tommorrow I'm crying because the true video iPod came out, and apple dosnt let us know. They are way too secretive nowadays. Some people are holding back purchases until thay know it's what they want and nothing better can come.

I think adding an apple display is slight overkill;)

I don't know really, I quite like the suspense. Think about it, when companies tell you that in 6 to 9 months time a really cool thing is to be released, it looses its edge before it comes out, you're not so excited by it, and the whole thing is quite dissapointing. When apple releases something, its a total surprise, and everyone wants one.

there are exceptions though cough cough...powermac g5
