The RAM issue is only for Apple equipment because they charge ridiculous prices for RAM. With Oracle, you buy an Exadata system or you buy Autonomous Database Cloud Service. I've used their Cloud systems and have been provisioned for up to 1.2 TB of RAM on systems. Cloud-scale is just off-the-charts on hardware.
Yes, you might have to wait a while for your 1.2 tb MacBook air. Even external.

Slightly different markets.

Apple doesn’t need todo any other upgrades currently, of course new generations will be welcome.

Their price point is terrific. Those complaining the prices are outrageous should look at other manufacturers, Apple is a business and their main goal is profit for shareholders...and they do that offering innovative solutions, quality hardware, outstanding customer service....

Not happy? Move on!... plenty of Windows laptops from other makers, or build your own hack.

I'm glad that the option to build a Windows PC or Hack is out there. I greatly enjoyed building my Cougar i7-10700 and it would be fun building a 5950X Hack. But I'd have to plan it out and buy the best in compatible parts.

The problem is that Apple might come out with an M1X iMac or Mac Pro with the ports, RAM, supported displays that I need and make all of that work unnecessary. I will admit that building systems is a lot of fun but it's time I have to schedule in.

They will for sure -- it could be pretty darned pricey though, particularly if all the upgrades are required to be bought up front, from Apple, at Apple prices

The Intel iMac 27 that is probably what I would buy if there was no M-series would be a good model. Strong CPU, and it has user-accessible RAM sockets so I could put in up to 256 GB of RAM if I wanted to. It will drive 2x6k displays and is $2,299. I don't know whether or not you consider that expensive but it's a lot less than a Mac pro and it includes a 5k monitor.

If Apple can toss in an M1X and everything else is equal, then I would be very happy. That iMac is very close to my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't need much storage as I have the NAS and I could take out the standard 8 GB of RAM and put in 2 32 GB DIMMs.
