The comparison in battery length between this year’s Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (6.9”, 5,000mAh & Snapdragon® 8 Elite) vs last year’s Galaxy S24 (6.1”, 4,000mAh & Exynos 2400). For real guys, for real. 💀

If Apple’s small basic entry iPhone with an inferior chipset and display came within a whisker of their bulky flagship there would be RIOTS.

Welcome to AI, everybody. 🪫

I'd be more concerned with Apple doing a Samsung and releasing an iPhone 17 line that was discernably not different to the 16 line that it may as well not exist.

you mean like all they did was add a camera button that no one likes and is hard to use? The iPhone hasn't changed in a decade.....

Then speaking of AI...what did Tim say at the iPhone launch about AI? " The new iPhone 16 Pro, built from the ground up with Apple Intelligence" Yet none of the features they advertised were actually available at launch. Then not in all countries. Then some are STILL not available now.

So what was the difference between the 15 Pro Max and the 16 Pro Max?

Seriously, what is the point of this post? You have a device with an almost 1" bigger screen. More AI capabilities and we also know AI processes tax the battery. 31 hours of video playback on a device that actually allows multitasking and doesn't refresh apps every time I switch between apps (unlike my 16PM) is pretty damn good. Other than some slight low light camera improvement and maybe slight ultrawide camera improvement I notice no difference between my 15PM and 16PM and really not that much difference from my kiddo's regular iPhone 16. For real guys, for real 💀

Apple users SHOULD be upset considering Apple’s smaller, ‘basic’ entry iPhone with an inferior chipset and display (iPhone 15) gets claimed 20 hours of battery life during video playback, vs. its corresponding Samsung Galaxy S24 counterpart achieving nearly 50% better results (29 hours). And that Galaxy has a high refresh rate screen, something the standard iPhone does not have. That’s the real issue here.

Samsung fans must be just as bored as Apple fans. Or at least that's how I feel.

The iPhone 16 is a minimal improvement over the 15, both the normal and the Pro range. It does not reach the level of the standard iPhone 13 and 14. But almost. The standard 16 has a somewhat new design, but it still doesn't have 120hz. I find the 16 Pro extremely boring and continuous.

The Galaxy S has been practically the same since... the 23rd? Same cameras, same design... it's just as boring. Until the aforementioned 14 had an improvement in the camera compared to the 13 (it had the 13 Pro Max instead of the 12 Pro Max).

At least the AI of Google and Samsung has been available for more than a year in other languages and with many more functionalities than Apple's, which outside the US and 4 other countries is not expected until April (and without as many functionalities as its rivals).

Apple and Samsung play to give us news drop by drop, while other manufacturers, especially Chinese, give much better hardware. However, at the software level they are still quite behind.

One UI 7 seems to be a very interesting update. I find iOS 18 heavy and with a lot of bugs (there is one that makes me very nervous and that is that it takes a few seconds to load the right settings panel where the wifi and bluetooth appear). Android I consider that in many respects it is ahead of iOS and that it saves its ecosystem.

But at the hardware factor, neither of the two brands seems to me to be doing especially well. Boring hardware and AI as a sales factor (for me, smoke).

Err well Apple didn’t add much to pro max from last year

iPhone 16 from 15 they added far more

Also the air is said to be so thin that battery size will be less than 4000 mah

Facts remain none of the big brands

Apple, Samsung or google added much features/hardware lately.

Chinese brands are only ones pushing the boundaries in hardware

Apple gives you a year old chip in regular iPhone and pro max gets the better chipset.

All of Samsung s series have same chipset and most have same ram.

While I do wish there were a few more Ultra exclusive features the Ultra is still much better than the plus or regular s.

Your comparison is pretty much pointless as Samsung also offers folding phones which would probably be the pro max in terms of differentiated feature sets in the most exclusive offerings. Also Samsung making their lower tier phones better can only be good for consumers.

At the end of the day it offers more choice and benefits to everyone and no one has to buy the Ultra. They could save a few bucks if they wanted and still have a great phone.

The ultra has a much better aR screen, titanium frame, better cameras and s pen. For a lot of people that justifies paying a bit more and if you consider pre order deals the difference in price is not as big as MSRP.

Having incremental updates gen over gen is a smart strategy and holds resale value better.

Chinese brands push the hardware boundaries which is great but on the software side they are not as good, specially when considering update support long term.

Once Chinese brands offer long term software support and can somehow guarantee they are not spying on user's as an extension of the CCP then they would be a much better choice.

Software downside on Chinese phones used to be the case not anymore. People still hang that point though without using them.

ColourOS i could argue is the best software on any android brand right now. Fun touchOS isn’t great for global market but origin OS is pretty good. HyperOS while not as good it’s getting some good upgrades this year.

Most Chinese brands offer 4 years software and 5 years security. So people really need to get concerned because it doesn’t have 7? Certainly not. 4 years is perfectly good as most don’t keep their phones for more than 4-5 years

Software on the Chinese phones is catching up. I’ve been very impressed by OxygenOS on the OnePlus 13, better than HyperOS but I also liked the latter when I had a Xiaomi 14.

AI summarize is implemented really well on the OnePlus. The OS has a sidebar that’s essentially the same thing that Samsung has. But the AI works with 3rd party browsers. In Firefox for example pulling that side bar reveals a summarize button that works with nearly all content. No other menus or actions needed, I press summarize and done. On my iPhone I need to press the reader mode button in Safari and even then summarize doesn’t work on many websites.

As for CCP spying on me…My wife is Chinese, I’ve visited China, I use WeChat, AliPay and Didi (which are all miles ahead of anything we have here in the U.S.). I live life assuming my data is out there because our data is out there. Just do the best we can to limit exposure.

word is that Samsung people are not happy with S25. After using a Samsung device for a week, I fully agree with that. Samsung UI is a nightmare and especially on tablets. On phones it might be better but all in all, stay away from Samsung. I had bought earlier a cheap Redmi Note as a gift and that was much better. No wonder, Xiaomi is winning Android wars.

word is Apple people are not happy with the iPhone 16. Just go into the iPhone section here on Macrumors. There are enough people complaining about their iPhones 16s and IOS and Apple Intelligence. Then as a matter of record Samsung sells more phones than Apple or anyone else for that matter.

Some data for you:
kinds disproves your statement about Xiaomi winning the Android wars now doesn't it.......
Word is iPhone users are fed up with the iPhone 16 and all the bugs and issues and Apple Intelligence failing to live up to the hype. Tim Cook said the iPhone 16 was built from the ground up with Apple Intelligence...then most of it wasn't available when it launched and STIL not available. Apple was airing commercials about AI features that we not even available when the commercials aired....
Then global smartphones sales numbers will change next quarter when the S25 sales get factored into the sales figures.

I already showed true data and you were wrong

Dude...your OWN DATA disproves Xiaomi is not winning the Android wars...you were wrong....and it is not even close....

EDIT:Apple and Samsung are really close in global sales for 2024. But after the first quarter of 2025 and sales of the S25 models gets counted into those figures, i think Samsung will top the global sales market.

Try a Galaxy Tab S10+ or S10 Ultra, those are the Android tablets I'd go for instead of the budget ones that aren't enjoyable to use. The only people unhappy with the S25 are S24 owners. For people like me who never owned a Note or Ultra, the S25U is amazing.

You clearly haven't used a modern Samsung device, the software is excellent and OneUI 7 is on another level. While OxygenOS and HyperOS are also fantastic and have several benefits over OneUI and iOS, they don't offer the customization, convenience, and frequent security updates that Samsung offers. My S25U is smoother on a day to day basis than my iPhone 16PM, there is no lag whatsoever.

Probably a budget Samsung device. The S24 Ultra was widely recognized as the best device of 24. And the S25 Ultra is even better. Huge upgrade? No. But huge year over year upgrades are a thing of the past. Many S24U users who upgraded may be disappointed but that's why there is a return period and they should have known it was an iterative update, kinda like the 15PM to 16PM. I have no regrets as it's an absolutely amazing device. Will likely remain my daily for the foreseeable future over my 16PM and P9 Pro XL.
