Well, just put my credit card back into my wallet. <sigh> I had it out & ready just in case new ipad pros were announced. Didn’t expect them, but was hoping. So...let the guessing begin! When will they announce new ipad pros? September with the iphones? Oct/November before the holidays? Or...gasp...not until March of next year?!
No new information or rumors have been released to cause me to change my prediction of March 2019 for new iPad Pros. It's possible for a spec-bump on the existing 10.5 and 12.9 Pros, but I'm thinking that any new form-factors (notch, bezel-less, etc.) will be March 2019.

My ipad mini 2 is definitely dying. The screen is cracked in numerous places. The physical home button doesn’t work anymore, and it’s definitely sloooower than it use to be. I wanna upgrade to an ipad pro for photo/video editing and for drawing with the apple pencil at the higher refresh rate. I can hold out a little longer, but hoping an update to the pros comes this year.
If you want a Pro, then buy one as soon as there's a discount, or wait.

Me, I went from a 12.9 iPad Pro to the 2018 iPad and haven't regretted it for a moment. Great device at a great price. Pencil works great and all of the video/graphics editing I was doing on my 12.9 Pro is working just as well on it.

Could the next chance be when iOS 12 come out in October?

I'm inclined to agree now. Apple can focus on 3 new iPhones and new MBP'S for later this year meanwhile selling the current IPP and IP 2018.

I’m thinking you’re right about the March 2019 date. I can wait. If thats true about the ipad pros, My other possible option is that if Apple announces a new ipad mini in the fall with pencil support. I would then nab that, cause i love the form factor...and then get the 12.9” ipad pro x in March to compliment it. Otherwise, i will wait and get the 10.5” ipad pro x in March(or whenever). I think we will find out for sure if Apple plans to discontinue the ipad mini this fall after ios12 is released. If not then...i believe the ipad mini is history. Many think the upcoming 6.5” iphone x plus will make the ipad mini redundant. I don’t believe it would, but many already think the current larger iphones makethe ipad mini redundant...so maybe apple thinks that way too. Sad. I really think it’s the perfect portable size. Much easier to carry around than a larger ipad...and much more enjoyable to do work on than even the largest smartphone.

That's a great plan.

If I thought that there was ANY possibility of a 2018 Mini w/Pencil I would've gone that route too. That was my original plan... keep using the Mini 4 and 12.9 Pro, when Apple produces a Mini w/Pencil support, update the Mini to that and keep on truckin'. My spidey-sense told me that the 2018 iPad w/Pencil support IS the Mini w/Pencil I was looking for. (absent the higher ppi and smaller form-factor of course)

I suspect that Apple might offer up a minor spec-bump to the existing Mini this Fall, but no Pencil support.

Will have to see how my 12.9 fares with this commute again (it was not good in the past), I need something with me for school and the 7+ will not cut it. I hope it works as I would rather put that money into my next Mac.

I would instantly buy an iPad Mini with pencil support though.

With the iOS 12 updates and focus on performance and the initial feedback that iOS 12 beta 1 is running smooth i am going to install the public iOS 12 beta on my iPad Air and tug along until the next iPad Pro is released.

I’ve just bought ipp 10.5

Good call. I will probably do the same thing. Just gonna wait a little longer. Although i don’t know how much longer i can hold out. Cause the chance of the ipad pros getting an update anytime soon just dropped significantly since there was no announcement at WWDC.

I don't know what iPad you currently have, but I don't recommend buying an iPad Pro now if you don't "need" to.

I think there's a possibility of a minor spec-bump to the existing Pro models in the Fall. The 2018 iPads are so stinkin' inexpensive that it might be an option to buy you some time until the Pro that you're looking for is announced. Depending upon your finances, you could then give it to a family member, or sell it without too much of a loss.

I “need” to and just bought one. Too bad no Apple Pencil 2 yet.

The summer is approaching. I will be travelling and for my business I'd rather go with IPP than my MBP15.
Also I have had my previous Air2 for a few years until it got stolen last month, therefore I think that the current IPP will last at least 2/3 years for me.

I pulled the trigger today on a 10.5 upgrade to my first gen 12.9. Just my luck, they'll release new Pros in a few months :)

Oh, i plan to wait. I was being a little coy. I will definitely wait until the radically redesigned bezel-less ipad pros with face id come out. I’m limping along on my old ipad mini...but i will stick it out. If it dies before the new pros are released, sure, i would probably pick up the new 2018 ipad with pencil support to tide me over until they are. It’s cheap enough for sure. But as long as my mini holds up, i will just keep waiting. And if Apple does update the mini in the fall, i will nab one of those, and a new 12.9” pro whenever they are updated. For me, that would be the ideal combo. The 12.9” for serious artwork at home, and the mini for when i travel(which is often). But if they discontinue the mini...i will split the difference and go with the new bezel-less 10.5” pro when it comes out. Lots of variables.

This is why I prefer buying upon launch even when there's no discount (not like the maxed out LTE models get discounted anyway). Once product gets to mid-cycle, I'm bound to drive myself crazy vacillating between whether to buy or wait.

Granted, that's partly dictated by price. For example, I happily bought a 32GB iPhone SE for $150 and a 128GB LTE iPad 5th gen for $350 mid-cycle. Alas, the iPad Pro configuration I would've wanted would still be ~$1100-1200 after tax (and that's already for refurb) had I waited. Not comfortable spending that much for something I don't really, really, absolutely, positively want.

Bummer about your Air2 being stolen. Was it password protected and did you turn on “find my ipad” feature? Regardless, enjoy your new ipad pro!

No regrets. Enjoy & use your new ipad to the fullest for the next few years! I go thru the same thing everytime i’m about to buy a new apple product...but once i get it and am using it, that regret quickly fades. Because ultimately, using & being creative on your ipad, computer or phone is what matters. With plans set up the way they are, Phones are easy to upgrade to the latest & greatest every year. Ipads i tend to keep longer. At least 3 years. My current ipad mini 2 is nearly five years old! and showing it’s age...but it still works. I am sure when i upgrade to one of the new ipad pros, i will be blown away tho.

It was both password protected and I've launched find my ipad to lock it. Happened a month ago and zero notifications..
I'm living in Europe, therefore I think it was cracked and went somewhere east.

I'm in a similar boat. I've got an iPad Air that I've had for four and a bit years. It still works but its really sluggish now and its only 16GB, it's getting a little long in the tooth!

I really like the 10.5. The pro motion display is gorgeous and fancy getting the pencil. Just cant decided if its the right time to buy. If the new ones come out in March I'd be happy with that but if they came out in October I'd be gutted!!

Having said that I don't feel the need to upgrade the iPad each year so not sure what to do!

I'm waiting on the OLED iPad X, no matter long it takes. Hopefully, the rumored 11" form factor becomes available. Until then, I'm happy with the combination of my first generation 12.9" and Mini 4.
