Please stop with the ‘Apple is discontinuing the iPad 11“ ‘ fantasy.
You're looking at it all wrong. They probably will discontinue the 11" - but only because they will be making it 11.3" or 11.4".

With the new iPad mini Pro coming soon, 11" will be too close in size, so they'll need to bump it up a bit so that the 3 Pros will be more balanced in sizes.

I don’t think the 11” is going anywhere. A screen size bump maybe but I doubt that.

IF they’re bringing FCPX and Logic to iPad, this is what I predict. Entry prices will not drop but I see them dropping the 128GB and moving the 256GB into its spot. 512 and 1TB will drop $100 and a 2TB will come in at $1599 and $1799 respectively. I’m comparing this to the MacBook Air. It would put the 12.9 and Air right in line price wise.

I know a lot of people are going to say they are not comparable. I disagree. Because while the iPad has a touchscreen, the MacBook Air has a keyboard, trackpad and two USB ports. Both things the iPad can have... for an additional $300 (Magic Keyboard). Now, the M1 is supposedly the A14X with the Intel translation layer and a few other Mac APIs built it. So really the MacBook Air and Pro are comparable and Apple is only competing against itself here.

The only thing is the iPad *might* stick with 6GB but even then I think there is a good chance that they will pretty much lift the 8GB M1 and drop it in the iPad and call it the A14X. That’s why the M1 has no branding other than the Apple logo.

I certainly hope this is the case. 1TB for $100 less would certainly be much appreciated. Not enough to cover sales tax but still a decent reduction.

Granted, I'm preparing myself for a $200 price increase just in case.

I don’t know where the notion of the 11” iPad Pro disappearing came from. It does appear that only the 12.9” is getting mini-LED, but they will likely stay the same in every other aspect. The 11” isn’t going anywhere.

Also, you think they’re going to add mini-LED and drop the price? Lol...
Here’s a crazy idea - do like most every other electronics-industry company and make the products better without raising the price.

Oh I am completely with you. I'm just saying when they add a new display technology to this product if the price were going to move either way it would be up. I do hope it holds steady, though.

Seems to me with the way the Air is priced, the only direction for the price of the Pro is to go up?

Doesn't take much to start a rumor

For example;

[rumor]I heard that Apple was going to come out with a new desktop keyboard (and it will have a Touchbar) [/rumor]
WTF.... TOUCHBAR Magic Keyboard?! REALLY? OMG.

CRAZY.

<opens phone> HEY guys.... guess what I heard?

They sell way more 11s than 12.9s, so they’d be crazy to drop it. More likely they will play with the size. Maybe call it 11.3 or something...
I thought so, too. But I was in Best Buy's Apple section today, and saw no 11" Pros (only the 12.9" and Air 4). I asked the "Apple" rep, and he told me they don't put the 11" on display.

Hint of the 11" Pro's rumored impending demise?

We're talking Best Buy here. They don't necessarily put out all the Apple models. Also, there is no Apple rep. Just the BB sales guy, who probably knew very little about the product. I was there once and one of the sales guys told me that one of the PC's that they sold was built on the very same assembly line as Apple products. If ever there was a reason not to buy Apple products from best buy....

Some would argue the $300/$350 Magic keyboard is not really a necessity. Especially for those who have gained proficiency typing on glass*.

*Which is much easier on the larger 12.9".

Actually, there are 3 reasons: 1. Best Buy has great sales -- More than once I've paid $200 - $350 less than buying (MacBooks) from the Apple store.
2. You can actually go in and try out the products, whereas Apple stores continue to severely restrict customer traffic due to Covid.
3. You don't need a reservation to make a purchase. My wife's old MacBook Air died, and she needed a new one immediately for her business. It was about 2 hours before closing time, and the Apple store reps told us it was too late to make a reservation and would not sell us the Mac, no matter how much cash I flashed at them. Best Buy let us walk in and gladly took our money.

There are other stores that also carry Apple products (and they display the full line of Apple products) usually at better prices than BB. The only difference is that these other stores have Apple Certified Trained salespeople.

See #1 above.

See #1 above.
Note: I wasn't saying that you shouldn't buy from the Apple store. However, Best Buy (along with MicroCenter) does has advantages for the experienced and savvy Apple buyer. More novice shoppers are greatly aided by the Apple store's Certified Trained salespeople, and should certainly buy there.

Which further proves my point. iPad has touch input whereas the MacBook Air doesn’t. MacBook Air has keyboard and trackpad input but the iPad doesn’t (without an extra accessory). So it would make sense that everything else being equal they would be priced within spitting distance of each other.

Lenovo Tab P11 Pro

There's an optional keyboard, pen and kickstand pack that will cost an extra $100. (This is the Display Cook will source for te new OLED iPad Pro”)

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus

Samsung's Tab S7 Plus sports a 12.4" 1752x2800 (266 PPI) 120hz HDR10+ Super AMOLED display. Other features include a Snapdragon 865+ chipset, 6/8 GB of RAM, 128/256 GB of storage and a dual camera setup. (This is the Panel Cook will source for the new iPad Pro OLED”

Now for Laptops Samsung makes 14” and 16” OLED Displays.
Crossing my fingers! However, the Lenovo screen is the wrong aspect ratio and density (if it is pentile—true RGB it is prob close enough in density).

Except that the 12.9“ iPad Pro only comes with 128 GB storage on the base model, while the base MacBook Air has 256. Apple needs to start the 12.9” at 256gb if they’re going to sell these at the same price.
