Thanks for the tip bankshot. It's obvious enough to make me feel a bit dumb for not thinking of it. In Windows I would have already done it but while I have only been using a mac for a few weeks now and haven't had much time to really play with it, I somehow didn't think of it. I guess because it's different than what I'm used to in so many ways and still a bit confusing I'm looking for a more complicated solution rather than the easiest. I'm constantly reminding myself it's not Windows and to not treat it like Windows I overlook the common settings that macs, Windows and Linux all have.

My daughter and I occasionally joke around about how everyone has their 'Duh!' moments, I just had one of my own. :D

Anyway, thanks again.

iTunes 5 adds playlist folders, so you can have Baroque, Romantic, Classic, and 20th Century playlists inside the Classical folder

That's very cool, I needed that feature... but how do you make them?

EDIT: ups, there it was file>new folder. Very happy for that feature.

It's important to note the difference between iPhoto and iTunes with respect to organization (after seeing a comment associating the two). While iPhoto FORCES you to use its organization method, iTunes does not... it allows you to choose.

That said, letting iTunes organize your music is a huge-gantic time saver, since renaming batches of songs inside iTunes renames and neatly reorganizes the source files in the finder. It allows you far more control over preening and pruning your files, since the finder only allows you to sort files in a limited amount of ways.

I too, was a hardcore Winamp user until I got my iPod.... I actually tried iTunes prior to getting the iPod, but didnt spend enough time with it and uninstalled it. After the iPod though, I had to at least try iTunes properly, and now, I couldnt bear to leave it. Ive spent so much time on it perfecting my collection, thst I value the actual software more than the iPod! Its a bit bloated compared to Winamp, but is a far better way of managing your music on a computer.... plus the interface is much nicer and the seamless iTMS integration is wonderful.
