i think they can get away with it in the GS6 now, the transition to a 14nm SoC will allow for a ridicoulously power efficient SoC and also very powerful and also more room for a even bigger battery in the device, tailored all of this with a most likely more power efficient OLED display then previous generation, the GS6 will have extremely good battery life and i dont think people will be complaining much

I think since cheap external battery chargers have become mainstream, not many people care anymore.
This is my opinion as well.
I like being able to charge my phone every night so that I start the day at 100%. I am by no means a heavy smartphone user. But power outages are not uncommon in my area. When the power goes out, so does Verizon FIOS phone service and Internet.
Personally, I would be fine as long as the battery is replaceable even if it isn't replaceable by me. While Apple's battery replacement program isn't cheap, at least you know you can walk into any Apple store and walk out with a new battery.
With the exception of phones with user replaceable batteries, I'm not aware of any manufacturer that offers standard prices for battery replacement.
I love the fact that my Galaxy S3 and HTC Desire Z has a removable battery. With both these phones, I replaced the battery with a higher capacity battery. I always find that phone batteries don't last long enough and I loved that I have the option to replace the crappy battery with a less crappy one.
I bought a Meizu Power Bank (10400 mAh) for like $17 yesterday and wasn't sure if it is genuine or not. I figured since it is a mall and they do sell MX4 in the booth, it is genuine. It looks like the Xiaomi Power Banks but with a small led screen. Since Xiaomi copied the design of the iPod mini, Meizu looks pretty much like a big iPod mini. So far, not bad. It was able to full charge one of my phones with maybe 2-3 other half charges. Practical for my travels and layover.
I guess Power Banks or any external battery packs helps not having a non removable battery for some. But I would still love to swap it just in case the original battery is completely depleted.

This has got to be up there with the LED light as one of the most overrated "features" in a smartphone.

I have an iPhone, and never have I had a problem with having a dead device. Perhaps I'm just prepared....I have plenty of cables in my bag, in the car, at home. And can plug in my device at any time during the day.
And if I'm away from a plug for an extended period of time? I can get like 5 additional charges out of my power bank that cost $15 on Amazon and fits in the small side pocket on the inside of my bag.
Removable batteries mean removable battery covers which means non-uni-body phone.

for me removable batteries is not about swapping on a regular basis, but easy (and considerably cheaper) replacement when the battery is past its prime. increases the length of service of the device, not a problem if you upgrade and sell every 1-2 yrs. though both of my brothers iphone 5 batteries were quite terrible after two years. My iphone 4 that I use as a lullaby machine holds a pretty weak charge these days

Gotcha - I'm an upgrade fiend so I wouldn't know about having to replace a battery (if it fails within that window, Apple will generally replace it for you).
Just find the two to be odd things to draw a line in the sand about....
not really a line in the sand, but the more features android OEM's take away, the closer I come back to iOS
I don't see Samsung locking away batteries anytime soon. That's usually one of the biggest attractions to its devices. However, with battery charging rates advancing, i.e. Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, there may not be a need for extra batteries in a few years.
I don't care much about removable batteries. Batteries usually outlast their devices nowadays and power packs are much more convenient than battery changing.
A heavy user can see a noticeable shortening of battery life within 12 months.
